Understanding the factors that influence your decisions and how to weigh them is the only way to become a truly great no-limit player. It is certainly possible to become a winning player, even a fairly good player, by trying to memorize the correct plays and the advice you hear at the tables, but you will never really understand the game if you don't understand the fundamentals.
