  • Stud Poker describes a Poker variant played with face-up and face-down cards
  • You only need to beat the dealer to win Stud Poker 3D at Online Casinos
  • Most of the Stud Poker games are available online for real money play

Sometimes, you need very little to play lots of games online.

Take Video Poker, for example.

Nail down the basic rules and poker hand ranking, and youre good to play dozens of different games.

Online Casinos alone offer you plenty of Poker variants to try: Casino Holdem, Let It Ride Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Three Card Poker, and, of course, Ultimate Texas Hold'em.

While some names are pretty self-explanatory (Casino Holdem - Casino version of Texas Holdem Poker, Three Card Poker - played with three-card hands, Video Poker - played on a machine, etc.), have you ever wondered what stud stands for in Poker variant names?

What is Stud Poker 3D

If you take a look at our Poker dictionary, youll find the definition of Stud games:

Games in which players get down cards and up cards.

Accordingly, you get multiple betting rounds and you adjust the strategy based on the up cards while speculating what the down cards may be.

Of course, its easier said than done. But theres a way to make the done part easy, too.

Stud Poker 3D is nothing more (or less) than Stud Poker games online.

They are available both in the demo and real money modes, plus, you play against the dealer rather than other players.

How to Play Stud Poker 3D

how to play stud poker

No matter what variant of Stud Poker 3D you take, the rules will be similar.

First, you need to place your bet to join the game.

This bet is usually called ante, and its the only bet you need to place. You place more only if you want to continue playing after seeing your cards.

Then, you will get your cards.

A typical Stud game involves five-card hands, so for the sake of explaining, lets say you get five cards. All facing up.

Its the dealer who gets both up and down cards at this point.

If we take the same five-card Stud game, the dealer will get one card up and four hole cards (face down).

Thats when you make your next move.

You can raise (call) or fold (pass).

Raising means you feel good about your hand, and youre willing to continue playing with a higher wager.

Youll still have your ante and youll make another bet thats twice the size of it.

For example, if your ante is $1, your raise bet is $2. In total, you wager $3 on this fictional round of Stud Poker 3D.

Dont raise to pretend you feel good about your cards. Bluffing doesnt work when you play against the House. The dealer bases their moves based on the predefined rules, not their personal judgment like the players would.

Folding means you arent willing to increase your wager. And if its a terrible hand, youre most likely doing the right thing.

You lose your ante (the fictional $1), and you end the round.

Obviously, if you fold, there is no point in talking about what happens next. You lose your ante, and you can play again or leave the table and try your luck on Slot machines. Or whatever suits your gaming taste.

But if you do raise, dont leave the table just yet.

The dealer gets the remaining four cards (or flips the hole cards face up) and you two compare your hands.

Your win depends on the dealers cards more than you think. Its not only a comparison of who has a better hand. In order for you to win most, the dealer has to qualify - to have at least an Ace-King or better hand.

Dealer qualifiesYour hand is betterYou win even money on the ante and raise bets
Dealer qualifiesDealers hand is betterYou lose both ante and raise bets
Dealer doesnt qualifyYour hand is betterYou win even money on the ante bet and raise bet is a push

Stud Poker 3D Strategy

stud poker 3d 2

If you have ever tried to learn Blackjack basic strategy, you may hate the word strategy altogether.

And Stud Poker 3D will restore your faith in it.

Because its the simplest strategy ever. Seriously.

You only need to remember one five-card hand - AxKxJx8x3x:

  • If you a have a hand like that (or better) - raise. Every time
  • If you have a hand thats worse - fold. Every time

Its a mathematically calculated hand that gives you the best odds of winning Stud Poker 3D games.

And lets be honest, it makes all the sense in the world.

You would never win much with a hand lower than Ace-King because Ace-King is the dealers qualifying hand.

Sure, you can hope that the dealer wont qualify. Then the even money on ante is yours no matter what.

But the dealer will qualify 56 percent of the time. So here goes your ante.

Just remember the AxKxJx8x3x hand, raise or fold accordingly, and youll be good.

Good luck!
