One-Drop Countdown

The Amazon Room in the Rio is absolutely electric this afternoon. Throngs of media, fans, and players are all around. A tournament with a $1,000,000 buy-in will tend to do that.

Player introductions took place in the revamped Thunderdome before the start of the tournament accompanied by drumbeats from Cirque du Soleil performers. The biggest cheers were reserved for Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Antonito Esfandiari, and Gus Hansen.

We caught up few a few players to get their thoughts on the event.

Phil Galfond says, Its exciting. Its great for poker.

We asked Andrew Robl what his game plan was for the day.

I looked at my table draw. Poker is poker. Im gonna try to do what I always do.

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi had one word to describe today's event.

"Exciting!"

$1,000,000 Buy-in And A $10 wardrobe

We always like to have fun with the wardrobe choices of poker players, but it was especially interesting to see the outfits of the some of the notables in the One-Drop today.

Its just a day at the beach for Sam Trickett.

Busquet In Commentator Booth For One Drop

Olivier Busquet pictured on left. David Tuchman pictured on right.

Many poker fans and players will be delighted thatOlivier Busquet is back in the booth again. He received rave reviews for his commentary in the past. Hes in the booth with David Tuchman providing commentary for the WSOP online stream for Table 391, featuring Phil Ivey.

We caught up with Busquet at break.

What are your impressions on the play thus far?

Vivek (Rajkumar) has been the most active, he chipped down and lost a third of his stack but chipped back up again in hand againstErik (Seidel) in a seven-bet pre-flop pot. Im not sure if Erik six-bet with a hand and decided to let it go or if he was making a play.

Ben Lamb has been playing pretty loose and splashing around a bit. Ivey has been quite snug thus far which is really surprising.

Brandon Steven has come out to play. The tough table does not intimidate him, which it shouldn't when you put up a million dollars. He came in tenth in the Main Event two years ago as well.

Hansen's Brick

When walking through the tables in the One Drop Tournament we saw that Gus Hansen had a $50,000 brick of cash stashed under the table:

$50,000 Brick Under The Table

As he was heading off to break, we reminded Gus not to forget his cash under his chair.

"Oh!" he replied as he went back and slammed down his cash next to his chips.

Tom Tweet of the Day

Maybe it's a little too soon but Tom Dwan's latest tweet just seems a little too patronizing to us:

Low blow, Tom! Low blow.

Cash Game Watch: Patrick Antonius

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 112

We just spotted Patrick Antonius in the high limit cash game pit in the Pavilion. Last time we spoke to Antonius he hoped to play in the One-Drop but expressed reservations due to tax issues with investors.

Antonius is playing in a Mix Game 6max 100-200-400 table. Well be sure to keep the Muck faithful updated if any notables join in.

How Do You Fold Quads?

We just saw an insane, and almost unbelievable tweet from Phil Galfond about one of the craziest hands ever:

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 113

We will try to catch up with Galfond on break and have him walk us through the hand.

Outfit of the Day: Rick Salomon

Today's best outfit belongs to Rick Salomon who decided to show up to the Big One for One Drop wearing an all black one piece jumpsuit. Here's a shot of it that we got:

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 114
It's not nap time Rick

We caught him playing in the tournament, but he had taken off the top part of his suit. Must've been a little too hot under all those lights.

Let us know what you think of Salomon's outfit choice in the comments below.

How Do You Fold Quads? Part 2

We got a chance to catch up with a few of the players on break from the table where Mikhail Smirnov folded quads to John Smirnov's all-in river shove.

First up, we caught up with Roland De Wolfe who helped us get a little insight on how the hand went down.

Tom Dwan opened with AxQx, De Wolfe said. Then Smirnov called, and Morgan called, and the flop came out J?8?7?. Tom checked, and Smirnov bet, Morgan called, and Tom folded. The turn came the 8? and Smirnov bet again, and Morgan just called. The river was the K? and Smirnov bet again, a huge bet. Then Morgan shoved all-in over the top of that.

We asked De Wolfe what he thought of the fold, if it was ridiculous or genius.

At first I thought it was ridiculous. But now, I think it was a really good fold. Phil Galfond said it was the best fold he'd ever seen.

We also asked him if Morgan said anything to imply that he had the straight flush.

He did say a few things that led me to believe that he had it, De Wolfe said.

After this we were able to catch up with Phil Galfond who gave us a little more insight on that hand. We asked Galfond if he thought the fold was a good one, or a ridiculous one.

It very well could've been a good fold, Galfond said. It's hard to pick up stone cold reads only after two hours, but there are very few value hands that make sense on the river. As far as full houses KxKx is very unlikely cause you'd expect a raise pre, so maybe JxJx. I don't think I have it in me to fold quads, but I think it was a good fold.

Here is the full action of the hand as described by Eugene Katchalov as well.

Let us know what you think of the fold in the poll below.

"You Can Never Be Too Careful."

Some of the players in the Big One for One Drop are having a lot of fun at the expense of Phil Hellmuth's just call on the river against Paul Phua with the second nuts.

"How is Phil playing, Scummy?" Antonio Esfandiari called to Rick Salomon who was sitting at the adjacent table.

"Meh." Salomon said as he shrugged his shoulders and scratched his head.

"You can never be too careful," Esfandiari said about Hellmuth's just call.

They're Paying You With What?!

A lot of rumors were flying around that Shaun Deeb would be paid for his 2nd place in the One Drop satellite with tournament lammers since it was a satellite:

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 116

But Deeb just rebunked his own rumor with a picture of himself next to a few huge stacks of cash:

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 117

If all else failed, at least Deeb would've had entries to the Main Event for the next 100 years.

Robl On Tilt

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 118

We saw this tweet from Andrew Robl right after he busted The One Drop on a bad beat to Brian Rast. A while later, Dan Jungleman Cates responded, hoping to be able to play. Jungleman is not afraid to put up big money, having been the second person to accept The Durrrr Challenge. Hopefully these guys get some plans together and we see some extra side action during the next few days!

One Drop Snack Time

Snack time has a whole new meaning when playing in the One Drop tournament. The players have a huge snack bar all laid out near the tables with tea, coffee, crackers, and more all for the taking. Here's what the snack tables at the One Drop tournament look like:

The players have also been offered free massages all day which many players, including Phil Ivey and Nick Schulman, are taking advantage of.

Photoshop Potential

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 121

There have been some funny Photoshops popping up on two plus two the last couple of hours. Well keep an eye on how it develops. For now, heres Phil Ivey getting the well-publicized, world record breaking Longest Ever Calf Massage.

Well You Didn't Expect Them To Walk...

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 122

We snapped this picture of Guy Laliberte's golf cart that himself and some of his high rolling friends ride around the Rio in! In fairness, they only get an hour and a half for dinner, if they have to fit in a $4000 5-course meal in in that time then they want to cut down the commute at either end!

Economic Chip Stacking: Doing It Wrong

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 123

One Drop chip leader Frederic Banjout has an incredibly tilting way of stacking his chips. If he keeps running as well as he has been and adding to his stack, his low wall of ten stacks is going to spread around the whole circumference of the table before the night is out. Banjout, you're allowed to stack them higher!

Calling The Clock: Over/Under

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 124

Justin Bonomo, on the WSOP live stream for the One Drop, spoke about The Phil Ivey Effect and how intimidating Ivey can be at the tables. After one hand on the stream where Ivey went in the tank for a few minutes before making a fold versus Ben Lamb, Bonomo told us that yesterday he and some friends had been betting how long its been since someone actually called the clock on Phil Ivey, with the line set at 1.8 years.

Toughest Ever Table?

All Mucked Up: 2012 World Series of Poker Day 35 Live Blog 125
Erik Seidel has since busted

Check out this table from the One Drop: Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey, Ben Lamb, Antonio Esfandiari, Eugene Katchalov, Tom Marchese, Noah Schwartz and Vivek Rajkumar. Jason Mercier thinks this is one of the toughest tables he's ever seen, what do you think?

In the background of the above photo we can see the blue lights of the 'ThunderDome', the fabulous location of the One Drop final table, and where the current feature table, featuring Guy Laliberte is currently being played. We wonder if the eventual Final Table will be even tougher than the table described above?

What Do Billionaires Drink?

A cocktail waitress told a member of Team PokerNews just now that earlier she took an order at the One Drop, from an unknown player, for iced coffee. The only other stipulation the man gave was that the ice cubes in the iced coffee had to be made of frozen coffee too. What's the over under on how long that's going to take to make, given that you have to make the coffee, cool it, freeze it with non-specialized equipment, and then put it all together? We'll set the line at 80 minutes..
