Indianapolis Colts Epic Comeback Visualized as a Poker Hand
Last weekend the NFL Playoffs kicked off with Wildcard Weekend, and all four games lived up to the wild moniker C especially the AFC matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts. The visiting Chiefs pulled out to a 28-point lead and seemed poised for victory, but then the Colts Andrew Luck and company stormed back in the second half.
Luck scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half, the defense scored on a fumble return, and then T.Y. Hilton scored on a 64-yard pass to give the Colts an amazing 45-44 win. In the process the Colts managed the second-biggest comeback in Playoff history (the Buffalo Bills came back from 32 points down to beat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in January 1993).
The Colts' victory was improbable, and to put it in poker terms (which Bill Bowen did), it was the equivalent of a poker player going into the river with a full house against an opponent needing an inside straight flush draw to win. In other words: the Colts did the poker equivalent of drawing the one and only card in the deck they needed to win.
Heres a look a Bowens image:
