Harrah's Sets Schedule For 2006 World Series of Poker
There is no denying the fact that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has grown dramatically since poker's Cinderella story, Chris Moneymaker, won the main event. Nowhere is there more evidence of the explosion in popularity than in the 2006 WSOP.
That's right. It's back and bigger than ever. Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. has announced the 2006 WSOP line-up featuring 44 different events. The WSOP will once again take place at its Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino for the second straight year.
Satellites and live action will start on June 25, 2006, but the WSOP's biggest draw, the main event, won't start until July 28, 2006. And if you're considering playing in the main event, which has become the biggest poker tournament on the planet, you will have to play in one of four different Day 1 events because of the sheer number of players looking to become the next big thing in poker. If you are lucky enough to make it out of Day 1, get ready for one of two, Day 2 heats that will drop the number of players to 1400.
With huge numbers set to conquer the poker world, Harrah's vice president of sports and entertainment marketing, Jeffery Pollack envisions a great experience for all. "The World Series of Poker is the most prestigious poker tournament in the world and every poker enthusiast is invited to enter and become part of a time-honored tradition."
The 2005 WSOP broke all participation and prize money records for the legendary tournament and all live poker tournaments. With 45 events, 32,341 player entries saw action in the series with over $106 million in gross prize money. Expectations for this year are high as poker continued its incredible worldwide growth.
One of the reasons for the WSOP's success is its hosting environment. According to Pollack, the Rio is the perfect for the world's biggest tournament series. "We're thrilled to be back at the Rio. Last year, the team there did a magnificent job and we know that players and fans alike will be treated to an outstanding experience in 2006."
This year's WSOP also features the Second Annual WSOP Lifestyle Show from July 27 through July 30. This event will showcase poker wares, websites, books, and clothing. Look for this event to be just as popular as last year's show which attracted more than 50,000 people, including celebrities and athletes from the across the globe.
