PokerStars Named Operator Of The Year
Hollywood has the Academy Awards, the music industry has the Grammys, there are even award shows for video games! The online gaming industry does have its form of a yearly awards, as well. Recently, eGaming Review Magazine conducted their eGaming Awards, the equivalent to the high-profile shows mentioned above and named PokerStars the Best Poker Operator for 2005.
Among a short list of nominees for the title, PokerStars was chosen by the magazine at a lavish gala held in London. According to Scott Longley, the Editor of eGaming Review, PokerStars is "without question the online poker room to watch at the moment." It was also noted that part of their success was in having a very visible list of champions to promote the room.
With the recent signing of 2005 World Champion Joseph Hachem, along with the previous two World Champs in Greg "Fossilman" Raymer and Chris Moneymaker, the players give a tremendous visibility to fans of the game. It also gives rays of hope to those who want to be the next champion; both Raymer and Moneymaker won their seats to the World Series of Poker through PokerStars and, in an interview here at PokerNews, Hachem admitted that he prepared for the World Series through his play on the site.
The eGaming Review judges felt that, although PokerStars isn't the largest site out there, the performance of the poker room was well above that of its competitors. It looked at the growth of the site and its customer service as key elements in their success. Finally, the very visible faces of Hachem, Raymer and Moneymaker emerging from the site to worldwide adulation was something that was hard to ignore.
Since being founded in 2001, PokerStars.com has dealt over three billion hands and run more than 14 million poker tournaments, awarding well over $1 billion in prize money. The site is the world's largest poker tournament website, having recently passed the 3.5 million registered users milestone. Tamar Yaniv, Director of European Marketing for PokerStars.com, proudly accepted the award from eGaming Review. "We are honored to be recognized by eGaming for our performance over the last twelve months. We have worked hard at making PokerStars the home of the ambitious tournament player and we are proud to have three World Champion ambassadors, earning us the trademark "Where Poker Stars Become Champions."
