PPT Ready For Season Two Action
The broadcast of the Season One action on the Professional Poker Tour is set to start on the Travel Channel come July 5th and, with momentum on their side, World Poker Tour Enterprises is heading forward with the Season Two schedule. The second year of the PPT will kick off action in September as the WPT tournaments swing through their fifth season. There will also be new players joining the exclusive list of qualified players that are eligible for participation on the PPT which should increase the action even more in 2006.
Part of the uniqueness of the PPT is the factor that players have to qualify to be eligible for playing in the events. Through either winning a WPT event, making more than one WPT final table in a season, making the final table at the WPT Championship or the final six of the World Series of Poker $10K event or by reaching the upper echelons of one of several rankings systems, more players will be joining previous members such as Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Carlos Mortensen, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu and Jennifer Harman. In addition to the new players that have joined the qualified players list, over 100 poker pros have also lost their eligibility for the PPT. These new players are demonstrating, however, the "new wave" of poker players that have come to grace the felt.
New to the list are Season Four World Poker Tour Player of the Year Gavin Smith, two-time WPT winner Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, WPT World Champions Joe Bartholdi and Tuan Le, two-time Season Four WPT Final Table players David Singer and John D'Agostino, World Series of Poker Championship Event winner Joseph Hachem and many other competitors from the Season Three and Four competitions on the WPT. Each of these men and many others has earned their one, two or three year PPT "tournament cards" which make them eligible for the PPT.
The Season Two series of four events also will take the players to some of the greatest casinos on the circuit. It all starts at the Borgata in Atlantic City in September, with stops at Foxwoods in Connecticut (November), the Bellagio in Las Vegas (December) and the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles (February) wrapping up the schedule of events. Each tournament will be a freeroll for the participating players with the final table divvying up the $500,000 prize for each tournament.
While a broadcast outlet for the Season Two tournaments has yet to be found (the Travel Channel only committed to broadcasting the Season One events), that should only be a matter of time. The poker played in the competition of the Professional Poker Tour ensures that the "best of the best" will be at the tables, providing the all-star poker events and final tables that poker fans seem to want in broadcast television events. With their new qualifiers in place for the tournaments, the Professional Poker Tour heads into their second season with the players and the tournaments ready for action.
