WSOP Updates: Notable Women: Day Two Flight B
Cream rises to the top and some talented women have risen up to start Day Two Flight B today. When it comes to women and the WSOP Championship event, it's all about quality versus quantity. Even with the growing number of women taking up the game, they still comprised only about 3% of this year's starting field. That being said, Day Two Flight B is well represented by quality women starters in today's field.
Susie Isaacs is the only woman to win back-to-back WSOP bracelets in the Ladies event, performing that feat in 1996 and 1997. Susie came back in 1998 to finish 10th in the WSOP Championship event. Isaacs is a prolific writer and has a new book coming out later this year entitled Queens Can Beat Kings: A Woman's Guide to Poker. We'll keep an eye on Susie to see how she does against the kings in the field today.
Cyndy Violette is another WSOP bracelet winner taking the field today. Cyndy won a bracelet in the 2004 WSOP Stud hi/lo event and has over twenty money finishes in WSOP events. Violette is known for her healthy regime during the WSOP, keeping on a strict macrobiotic diet during the grueling ordeal. It has already paid off as Cyndy has five WSOP money finishes this year, including a final table, going into the main event.
Kathy Liebert is the lifetime top money winner of the gals, grossing over $3.3 million over her tournament career. She made her first WSOP final table in 1997 and like the Energizer Bunny, she kept on going. Kathy won a WSOP bracelet in the 2004 Short Handed NLHE event and has already cashed four times in the 2006 WSOP.
Melissa Hayden is another veritable woman "veteran" with eleven years on the felt. Over the course of her tournament career, Hayden has cashed in ten WSOP events, including three final table appearances. She's never scored a bracelet, but if she were going to win one, this would be a pretty sweet event to pick up WSOP bling.
"Aussie Sarah" Bilney was one of the last remaining women when the 2005 WSOP field made the money. Bilney went on to finish in 63rd place with a nice payday of $145,875. Bilney also has cashed in four WSOP events this year, just missing a final table when she finished 12th in the $2500 NLHE event. Sarah will have her work cut out for her today as she will be one of the shorter stacks taking the field.
It's going to be another long hard day today, but it looks like there are a number of notable women who are up to the task. Good luck, gals.
