APT Macau Upcoming Events: APT Poker Room, Doyle Brunson Book Signing 0001

Today promises to be a busy day as the Asian Poker Tour (APT) lands with a splash in Macau. The APT Macau event, the second leg of the 2008 Asian Poker Tournament, will run from August 27 through 31. But as players and fans descend on Macau from around the world, the APT has arranged a number of fun events ahead of the start of Asia's largest poker tournament.

At 3:30 pm local time on the 26th, the APT Poker Room will be officially opened on Level 2 of the Galaxy StarWorld Casino Resort and Hotel. An hour later, at 4:30 pm, the lobby of the resort will be the sight of poker royalty, as the legendary Doyle Brunson will be there signing his books, SuperSystem and SuperSystem II. The "Godfather of Poker," one of the game's most revered and famous players, will be there to meet with fans and autograph his books until 6:00 pm.

At 7:00 pm, poker tournament director Matt Savage will host a special charity event, the Celebrity Poker Challenge, which will be attended by many big names from outside the poker world including boxer Manny Pacquiao, viewed by many as the best 'pound for pound' boxer in the world, actor Michael Wong, and reality TV star/model Tila Tequila. Proceeds will go to Caritas De Macau which provides a variety of services to the individuals, families, communities and societies of Macau.

Chris Parker, CEO of the Asian Poker Tour, said, "We are delighted to bring the APT to Macau and really excited about offering Asia's largest ever guaranteed prize pool. The charity poker challenge will be good fun, and, most importantly, it is an aid of a brilliant charity in Caritas De Macau."

The pre-tournament events will wrap up with an exclusive after party at StarWorld's famous Whisky Bar following the Celebrity Poker Challenge.

The APT Macau tournament has a buy-in of USD $5300 ($5.000+$300) and is scheduled to begin with two day ones, on the 27th and 28th August. Organizers of the event are forecasting record breaking numbers in attendance with close to 500 players expected to participate. The previous record for a major poker event in Macau was 352 attendees. There is still time to sign up and play in this event with its guaranteed USD $1,500,000 prize pool, including USD $500,000 guaranteed for the winner, the largest of any Asian poker event.

PokerNews will be reporting live from the APT Macau, so check back at the live reporting page for updates on all the tournament action.
