PokerStars Announces Grand Opening at Grand Lisboa in Macau
PokerStars has announced the grand opening, on Thursday, March 19, 2009, of the new "PokerStars Macau at the Grand Lisboa" live poker room. The room will be located on the second floor of the Grand Lisboa Casino in central Macau, and will be upon its opening the largest poker room in continental Asia. The room will house 22 tables and will offer around-the-clock cash-game play.
The room will also play host to a number of tournaments and special events. Among them are regularly scheduled weekly poker tourneys, the "Macau Poker Cup" series, which is scheduled to run every other month, and the annual visit of the Pokerstars.com Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) for the Macau poker Festival. The room also plans to offer freerolls and other events aimed for all experience levels. Online registration will also be available.
Special events are planned for the opening weekend's (March 19-22) festivities. The "Macau Poker Cup" returns for the official grand opening, including the distinctive "Red Dragon" event (HKD 10,000 buy-in). The grand opening's "Red Dragon" tourney carries an HKD 500,000 guarantee. Among the other events are a charity event benefiting Caritas Macau; that event carries an HKD 1,000 buy-in.
According to World Champion and Team PokerStars Pro Joe Hachem, "PokerStars.com is committed to the development of poker across Asia, and this new room will be its heart. It has been extraordinary for me to watch the growth of poker culture in the eighteen months since the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour first brought poker to Macau, and I'm so excited about playing in my third APPT there in August."
