The Nightly Turbo: Prahlad Wins, A Couple Reasons You Should Play Online and More

3 min read
Prahlad Friedman

The Nightly Turbo is bringing you the day's top poker news stories. We know you can't be bothered googling for news when you're eight-tabling.

A New Legend

Prahlad Friedman took down the WPT Legends of Poker tournament and along with that, the $1,009,000 first-place prize plus a $25,500 entry into the WPT World Championship. Guess his opponents really should have practiced avoidance. (Ok, that's the last Poker Is Fun reference. Promise.)

November Niner, Kevin Schaffel finished in second place, saving up at least an ounce of his "run-good" for the WSOP Main Event Final Table in November. His second-place finish garnered him a $471,670 pay day.

The World Poker Tour is headed to Cyprus in a few weeks. Going? Check out what to do in our Jet Set guide.

Reasons You Should Play Online

The Lido International Dutch Open runs from November 10th to 13th at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. Some of the biggest names in poker were in attendance for this event last year including Sorel "imper1um" Mizzi, Freddy Deeb, and many more. November is only two months away and Bodog has your chance to get to Amsterdam. Steps qualifiers are running daily on Bodog for buy-ins from $1 to $100. A $12,000 package will be awarded for every 48 entries into the $270 Bodog Flight Club Semifinal. Sign up for a Bodog account and win your way to Amsterdam.

The Aruba Poker Classic is back this October and not only is playing a poker tournament in Aruba enticing enough, Ultimate Bet is making it even better. In honor of their 10th anniversary, UB has decided to throw $10 million on the table. However, just like anything that is too good to be true, there's a catch. Any player who qualifies online for the Aruba Poker Classic all the way from the 10-cent Step 1 and goes on to win the $5,500 Aruba Poker Classic Main Event will pocket an additional $10 million from Ultimate Bet. According to his twitter, Brandon Cantu started today. Sign up for an Ultimate Bet account and get started too. After all, $10 million is waiting.

If those two aren't good enough reasons, then maybe the great bonuses some of the other online poker sites have will do. Really? What are you waiting for?

Novmber Niner Gets Sponsor

The youngest player in the November Nine this year, Joe Cada, has been added to the PokerStars roster.

"I'm proud to have been chosen to represent PokerStars," Cada said. "Their reputation and prestige are second to none. I look forward to bringing even more accolades to their already decorated team."

PokerStars has sponsored four of the last six Main Event Champions. Whether they will get the winner this year is yet to be seen. One thing is for sure, it's definitely not a bad move for Cada.

Next year's WSOP isn't as far off as it seems. Sign up for a PokerStars account and get a head start.

In Case You Missed It

Modern cinema can be a useful tool for poker tips. Want to know how the line "I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves," from the movie Platoon applies to your poker game? Check out From the Big Screen to the Final Table.

Day 1C of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau has claimed its victims. One hundred and eighty-five players came out for the third Day-1 flight bringing the grand total of players for the event to 429. Day 2 will start with just under 200 players and you can follow the action as it happens at the Live Reporting page.

We all know there are plenty of poker tournaments to choose from these days. This can be a good thing because it gives players more choices or it could be a bad thing because prize pools are shrinking. Those are just two of the arguments made in The Explosion of Poker Tours Worldwide: Good or Bad for Poker. Check it out and let us know what you think.
