World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris Day 2: Amourette Sits at the Top 0001

Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris took place on Monday at the Aviation Club de France in Paris. Returning to the felt from the first two days were 127 players. The overall chip leader coming into the day was Fabrice Tuil who bagged up 204,600 chips on Day 1a. He was the only player over the 200,000-chip mark, but Iulian Iacob was less than 25,000 chips behind him in second place. At the end of the day though, it was Antoine Amourette who found himself in the top spot, bagging up 489,400 chips. He will be the chip leader moving onto Day 3.

Both Tuil and Iacob were able to amass nice stacks throughout Day 2 and still find themselves in the top ten. Iacob sits in second place for the second day in a row, finishing with 474,700 chips, and Tuil bagged up 280,800. Notable professionals Arnaud Mattern and Theo Jorgensen are also towards the top of the pack with 360,100 and 274,700, respectively.

Towards the end of the day, Mattern saw a flop of 9?8?4? with two others, Nicolas Dervaux and Mikhail Smirnov. After the flop, Smirnov fired 15,000 before Dervaux moved all in for 24,600. Mattern then reshoved for 143,000. Smirnov went into the tank for several minutes, eventually getting the clock called on him. He finally made the call holding the K?K? for the best hand against Matterns 10?8? and Dervauxs J?J?. The turn brought the 8? and Mattern smacked trip eights to vault himself to the lead in the hand. The river completed the board with the 2?. Dervaux was eliminated on the hand while Smirnov was left with just about 140,000 chips. Mattern raked in the massive pot to move up to 360,000 chips, right about where he finished out the day.

Amourette got the majority of his stack when he won a pot worth around 280,000 chips against Jerome Zerbib. On a flop of A?10?8?, two players checked to Zerbib. He pushed a bet of about 25,000 into the middle before the next player folded. Amourette went into the tank before sliding out a tall stack of chips to make a raise. The raise was enough to put Zerbib all in and he made the call, tabling the A?A? for top set. Amourette had him outflopped though with the 9?7?. The turn was the 3? and the river the J?, failing to pair the board for Zerbib and sending him to the exit. With that pot, Amourette pushed his stack to over 400,000 and assumed the chip lead. From there, he never looked back.

Some of the other big names that will be moving onto Day 3 are Aussie Millions winner Tyron Krost, Alexander Kravchenko, Patrick Bruel, and Antony Lellouche. The will join the other 44 remaining players who will return on Tuesday.

With only 48 players from the 127 that started the day moving on, there were plenty of bustouts. Jason Lester, Tommy Vedes, Andrew Feldman, Jen Kyllonen, Jeff Sarwer, Freddy Deeb, Allan Baekke, Praz Bansi, Sorel Mizzi, Ludovic Lacay and John Kabbaj were just a bunch of the notables who hit the rail throughout the day.

Not everyone returning tomorrow will leave with cash, as only 27 players will make the money. The others will be left empty-handed. Play will resume Tuesday at a nice-and-late 3:00 p.m. local time in Paris. Be sure to follow all the updates on PokerNews.
