2010 World Series of Poker Day 5: Michael Mizrachi Takes Down Player's Championship 0001

Michael Mizrachi won his first WSOP bracelet and joined the ranks of Chip Reese, Freddy Deeb, Scotty Nguyen and David Bach when he outlasted Vladimir Schmelev in the Players Championship. Mizrachi wasn't the only Michael to be added to the list of bracelet owners Tuesday night; Michael Chow picked up his first shiny, wrist adornment in the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better. Vincent Jaques of Canada leads the $1,500 No Limit Hold 'em, 36 players will return to the tables in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold 'em Shootout and only 96 remain in the $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball.

Event #2: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship

Michael Mizrachi lived up to his nickname after grinding through five days of play and 115 entrants to capture his first WSOP bracelet, nearly $1.6 million in prize money, and the Chip Reese memorial trophy.

The end came when Mizrachi moved all his chips, about 17 million, into the middle with Q?5?. A short-stacked Vladimir Schmelev made the call with Q?8?. Both players missed the flop of 9?6?4?, but the 5? on the turn got the crowd to their feet. Schmelev needed a seven or an eight to stay alive, but the 4? on the river sealed his fate, sending him to the cash cage to collect $963,375.

Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better

Michael Chow took down the fourth bracelet of the 2010 WSOP after and epic heads-up battle with Dan Heimiller that ended early Wednesday morning.

Heimiller, holding 10?8?7?2? was up against Chow's Q?9?3?2? on a board of 10?9?5?. The Q? fell on the turn and the river sealed the deal for Chow when it produced the K?. There was no chopping this pot and Chow took the entire thing with a king-high straight.

Event #5: $1,500 No-Limit Hold 'em

Canada's Vincent Jaques will return for Day 3 holding the largest stack of the 23 remaining players with 1,498,000 million in chips. Dwyte Pilgrim and Praz Bansi will also be back with hopes of making the final table.

Although he won't be back for Day 3, Humberto Brenes lasted just long enough to secure his 53rd WSOP career cash, good enough to tie him with Erik Seidel in fifth for the most cashes in history.

Chris Moorman, who led most of the day, also made his way to the rails before play ended for the night, along with Antionio Esfandiari, Shaun Deeb and Adam Levy.

Event #6: $1,500 No Limit Hold 'em Shootout

Thirty-six players won their tables during Day 1 of the first shootout event of the 2010 WSOP and will return Wednesday with hopes of winning a second table.

Josef Monro and Aaron Gustavson were the first to eliminate their opponents and advance to Round 2. Other returning players include Max Pescatori, Chad Brown, Chris Ferguson, David Rheem, Tom Dwan and 2009 Main Event final table makerJames Akenhead.

Day 1 of the shootout was tough for Kirk Morrison who got all-in pre-flop heads-up with 20,000 in chips holding 3?3?. Neil Channing insta-called with A?K?. After a flop of 9?3?K? Morrison looked good to take down his table, but Channing hit runner-runner straight cards, the J? and the 10? on the turn and the river, to eliminate Morrison. The loss was no doubt made worse by the fact that Morrison was the bubble-boy in the $50,000 Players Championship.

Follow the action when it resumes today at 2:30 PST.
