2010 WSOPE Event #3, Day 1b: Pantling Emerges On Top

The third event of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe, the 1,075 No-Limit Hold'em, continued on Saturday in London, England with the second flight of starting days taking off. The number of entrants was down a tiny bit from yesterdays 202 players to 195, but there was still plenty of poker to be had. At the end of the nine levels of play, 27 players remained and it was Wesley Pantling leading the way with 56,200 in chips.

Pantling won a nice, big pot right towards the end of the night against Dominik Nitsche to further cement himself as the chip leader. Pantling bet the turn and was called by Nitsche before firing a big value bet on the river with the board reading 10?8?8?9?4?. Nitsche again paid it off and Pantlings 7?6? for the straight was good enough to scoop him a hefty pot.

Also doing well on Day 1b were Sofia Lovgren (52,500), Andrew Lichtenberger (42,400) and Toby Lewis (35,300). Lichtenberger may have easily been the chip leader if it wasnt for a few pots he lost in the last couple of levels after gaining a ton of momentum thanks to rivering a flush with pocket kings. Even after dumping some chips back to shorter-stacked player, Lichtenberger still held on to the third largest stack at the end of the day.

Some of the other players to make it to the end of the day include Lichtenbergers fellow Full Tilt Poker Red Pro Scott Fischman, Yann Dion and Kyle Bowker. While they had success on the felt today in regards to making it to Day 2, there were plenty of big names and notable players who fell by the wayside.

Poker superstars Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Tom Dwan, Sorel Mizzi and Huck Seed were all relived of their chips throughout the day. Both Ivey on Dwan once sat towards the top of the leaderboard, but couldnt ride things out to the end.

Ivey more than tripled his stack after the first two levels, but dusted them all off to 2010 WSOP gold bracelet winner Chance Kornuth after having his aces cracked. Dwan had a much tougher start to his day, but was able to outlast Ivey and amount a plump stack that he carried the middle portion of the day, but unfortunately for him, there would be no first bracelet in this event.

As it stands right now, the remaining 27 from Day 1b and the 28 from Day 1a are all led by Pantling. Both he and Lovgren were able to surpass Jeppe Bisgaard who finished on the top of the leader boar from Day 1a. That leaves a total of 55 players moving on from the 397 that have entered so far. Theres hopes to sell the place out on Sunday for Day 1c with well over 200 players predicted to show up to play. As it always goes for most multiple starting day events, the biggest and most notable fields come on the last starting day.

The third and final flight of Day 1s kicks off on Sunday at noon local time in London. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to bring you all the coverage from the floor so be sure to tune in for all the action.
