Mike Sexton: Who I'd Like to See Win the 2011 WSOP Main Event
I was recently asked, "Other than yourself, who would you like to see win the Main Event of the 2011 World Series of Poker?" I said, "I'd like to see someone win who would not only be a great ambassador for poker but who could/would create a positive impact on the growth of poker and the image of the poker world." And I'm talking about a win that would surpass Chris Moneymaker's impact on the game after he won the Main Event in 2003!
Who would that be? I believe an intelligent, likable, talented, and good-looking woman would be the best choice (yes even better than a big-time celebrity). And for the record, I'm certain it would be worth at least $20,000,000 above the prize money for any woman who wins the Main Event of the WSOP who meets that criteria. (Ladies, do you see what an overlay you're getting?) She would not only get an incredible online poker site deal, but would get numerous endorsements from mainstream companies, as well as a book deal and a movie deal. And if you're wondering who that woman might be, try Kara Scott.
Kara is a player, poker host, and spokesperson on TV. Here are ten reasons why I think she would be the perfect choice.
- She's beautiful.
- She's nicer than she is beautiful.
- She's smart, a great speaker, is media savvy, and has a better smile than Magic Johnson.
- She is warm, friendly, personable, and has "it." Once people saw her, read about her, and/or got to know her, everyone would love her and that's whether or not they play poker!
She would be on the cover of nearly every magazine, make personal appearances, and do the talk show circuit (and believe me, they would all want her the morning shows, the late nite shows, Oprah, Piers Morgan, all of them as would reality shows such as Dancing With the Stars and Celebrity Apprentice). She would be a PR person's and an agent's dream client.
- With her endorsement deals, she could be the person to lure big-time corporate sponsorship into poker.
- She knows and loves the game and would be a super ambassador for poker.
- She would be an excellent role model and that could lead to a tremendous influx of new poker players.
- Men and women and girls and boys would love her and become fans. (Players all love her now.) It wouldn't surprise me if after she does the talk-show circuit, her twitter account would rival Charlie Sheen's.
- As a result of her win, the poker industry would benefit tremendously.
So, if you'd like the next World Champion of Poker to have a huge, positive impact on the poker world, you might want to root for Kara Scott or another intelligent, likable, talented, and good-looking woman to win the Main Event of the 2011 WSOP.
