WCOOP Day 17: Mayu "marroca5" Roca Uribe Denies Anders "Donald" Berg a Fourth Bracelet

Day 17 of the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker nearly saw WCOOP history unfold. Earlier in the 2011 WCOOP, Anders "Donald" Berg won a bracelet and tied the all-time record of three. Yesterday, Berg was in the mix again, final-tabling Event #47, $500 Stud Hi/Lo.

Event #46, the only dual game pot-limit mix tournament on the schedule, drew a field of 917 players. It was a grueling road to the final table, nearly 11 hours, but a final table was reached. Here were the chip counts at the start:

Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger was the first to fall, doing so during pot-limit hold'em. "4uvixa" opened in early position with A?K? and a short-stacked Benger picked up J?J? in the small blind. As you'd expect, Benger's chips found their way into the middle. The board rolled out 7?7?5?4?K?, spelling the end for Benger when the king hit the river. Not long after, "C12SLY" was felted. It was during pot-limit Omaha and action folded to "C12SLY" in the cutoff. With just more than eight big blinds, "C12SLY" raised pot. Next to act, "4uvixa" re-raised enough to cover "C12SLY's" stack. The blinds folded, leading "C12SLY" to call all-in with A?10?9?6?. For a PLO hand, "C12SLY" was in unusually bad shape, all-in preflop against "4uvixa's" A?A?10?6?. The board ran out K?7?6?2?K?, ending "C12SLY's" tournament in eighth place.

Despite dispatching the first two players from the final table, "4uvixa" exited in seventh place �� cooler style. Action folded to "4uvixa" who min-raised on the button. "PJShark78" called in the big blind and a K?6?6? flop hit the board. A bet and a few raises later, "4uvixa" called all-in with A?10?6?4? for trips. "PJShark78" turned over trips, as well, but was trailing with 9?7?6?3?. That didn't last long, though, as the 9? turn gave "PJShark78" a leading full house. As if that wasn't enough, the 9? river improved "PJShark78" to an even better full house to score the knockout.

Exiting in sixth place was "sootedacerag". Down to two blinds, "sootedacerag" got it in with 7?7? against "freshleo111's" K?3?. A K?6?5?2?4? board appeared and locked up the pot for "freshleo111." Three minutes later "luetch1" fell to "freshleo111", as well. Holding a three-big-blind stack, "luetch1" made a stand with Q?10?. However, "freshleo111" tabled a dominating K?10? and made the nut flush when the board fell A?J?2?5?9?. The heater for "freshleo111" continued, doubling through chip leader "PJShark78" and then eliminating "Azkiy" in fourth place. A J?9?3? flop provided a lot of fireworks as "Azkiy" wound up all-in with K?J?. Tabling 9?9?, "freshleo111" was well in front and officially took it down when the 7? turn and 8? river landed.

However, three-handed play did not go well for the eventual third-place finisher, none other than "freshleo111." A huge PLO hand with "Tim Piper" shifted the momentum in Piper's favor. A series of raises between the two led to Piper five-bet shoving with A?A?Q?2?. Having committed a lot of chips already, "freshleo111" called with J?J?10?8?. The A?9?8?10?6? board hit both players, but "Tim Piper" had the better of it with top set. Shortly thereafter, "freshleo111's" elimination left a heads-up battle between "Tim Piper" and "PJShark78." After a deal and a mere eight hands, "Tim Piper" took it down during pot-limit hold'em. Both hit top pair on a Q?8?7? flop, but "Tim Piper's" Q?10? had "PJShark78's" Q?6? outkicked. The 7? turn left a few outs to a chop, but the 3? river secured the WCOOP bracelet for "Tim Piper."

PokerStars WCOOP 47 - $500 Stud Hi/Lo ($50K Guaranteed)

Newsflash: Team PokerStars is having a very good WCOOP. So it was little surprise to see Anders "Donald" Berg with the chip lead to start the final table of Event #47, the $500 Stud Hi/Lo. Berg, who going into the final table was tied for the most bracelets in WCOOP history with three, already has a victory in the 2011 WCOOP, winning Event #16. How would he fare at this final table? Here were the chip counts to start:

Mayu "marroca5" Roca Uribe scored the first elimination, sending "7PRS" away in eighth place. In a three-handed pot, Roca's 2?8?/3?9?7?2?/2? was good enough to take the entire pot as neither "7PRS" nor "Itto" made a low or beat Roca's trips. Losing that pot left "Itto" low on chips, and shortly thereafter, "Itto" was on the rail. All-in on third street with A?4?/2?, "Itto" faced Ilya "ilushan" Gorodetsky's 6?6?/K?. Gorodetsky improved to queens and sixes, while "Itto" made an inferior two pair of nines and deuces with no low to finish in seventh place.

Gorodetsky was eliminated in sixth place. He lost most of his chips to Anders Berg. With A?7?/7?, Berg improved to aces up by hand's end. Gorodetsky, meanwhile, held XxXx/K?8?3?J?/Xx and couldn't best Berg's two pair to be left with half of a big bet. The Russian fell two hands later. At one point during five-handed play, Berg held more than half of chips in play. Perhaps the key hand at the final table, for reasons that will be obvious later, was between Mayu Roca Uribe and "rockstar2." Roca was all-in on fifth street and both had very similar short stacks.

Roca was freerolling for the entire pot and got there when the 4? on seventh street gave him a straight. A few hands later "rockstar2" departed in fifth place. "SonnyRamone" fell a little while later in fourth place, getting chopped up by Roca and "ramondemon77." All-in on third street with 8?4?/5?, "SonnyRamone" improved to an 8-7 low with a pair of fives. However, the other three opponents each went all the way in the hand. Roca was all-in pre-fifth street and took half the pot with a 6-4 low, while "ramondemon77" won the high with tens full of kings to end "SonnyRamone's" tournament.

Roca staged an excellent comeback, at one point finding himself with just 4 percent of the chips during three-handed play. A lengthy back-and-forth battle between the final three resulted in "ramondemon77" finishing in third place.

Berg called and check-called down to sixth street before seizing control of the pot with a bet. "Ramondemon77" called all-in and led for the high with eights, but failed to improve on seventh street. Berg, meanwhile, made two pair on seventh street to score the elimination. The chip counts to start heads-up play were 1,522,940 for Roca, while Berg commanded a stack of 442,060. Unable to gain much traction, Berg came up short in his bid for WCOOP bracelet No. 4.

The majority of Berg's short stack went into the pot on fourth street and the rest on fifth. With a low and wheel draw, Berg missed on both, only making a pair of threes on seventh street. Roca's queens held up to win the pot and award the Colombian his first WCOOP bracelet.

PokerStars WCOOP 48 - $1,000 No-Limit Hold��em Two-Day ($600K Guaranteed)

Following 24 levels on Day 1 of Event #48, a $1,000 No-Limit Hold��em Two-Day affair, 49 players remain from a starting field of 1,013. During the last level of play on Day 1, chip leader Simeon "IamBuddhaa" Naydenov tangled with "CoooKay."

An under-the-gun "CoooKay" min-raise was called by "jostein77" in the small blind and Naydenov in the big blind. A 9?8?6? flop hit the board and "jostein77" checked. Naydenov bet, with only "CoooKay" calling to see the K? hit the turn. "CoooKay" called another bet from Naydenov, this one just more then half the size of the pot. The 4? fell on the river, leading to Naydenov's third bet at the pot. This time, he bet 47,211 into a pot of 64,346. "CoooKay" called for a third time and was relieved to see Naydenov table Q?10? for a missed double gutter (and overs). With A?9?, "CoooKay" grabbed hold of the chip lead going into Day 2.
