According to reports, Russian poker player Nikolay Evdakov passed away on Monday, Feb. 6 at the age of 47.

The cause of Evdakov's death is unknown, but his wife Nataliya made the news public on the Russian poker forum cgm.ru. Evdakov's funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Troekurov Cemetery in Moscow.

Evdakov made a name for himself in the poker world when he set a record by cashing 10 times at the 2008 World Series of Poker, besting the mark of eight previously held by Michael Binger, Chad Brown, Phil Hellmuth and Humberto Brenes. His achievement helped him earn a sponsorship deal with Full Tilt Poker, where he became a regular at mid- and high-stakes tournaments on the site.

Evdakov's biggest cash came at the 2011 WSOP $25,000 Heads Up Championship, where he took seventh place for $138,853. His only other six-figure score came at the WSOP $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, where he finished fourth for $110,628.

On Tuesday, Alex Kravchenko, Sergei Rybachenko and Alex Kostritsyn, among others, had many kind words to say about Evdakov after learning of his death.

PokerNews sends its condolences to Evdakov's family and friends during this difficult time. We will add to this report as further information becomes available.
