East Coast Grinder: WPT Events at Parx and Borgata Highlight August and September

July has come to an end, and the World Series of Poker is two weeks in the rear-view mirror, poker players, fans, and media have started looking to what's coming ahead. On the U.S. East Coast, numerous events will be hosted in August at Mohegan Sun, Parx Casino, Turning Stone and Foxwoods. Then, in September, the always popular Borgata will be hosted a big event.

Mohegan Sun Summer Showdown

The first event of the five feature in this review is the 2012 Mohegan Sun Summer Showdown. With nine Mohegan Sun events held from Aug. 1 through 5, 2012, and $275,000 guaranteed, Mohegan Sun will be just the place to cure your WSOP hangover. The buy-ins range from $120 to $1,100 and each of the featured events has a guarantee on the prize pool. The $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event has a $100,000 guarantee and a kind structure that starts players with 40,000 in tournament chips and 50-minute levels.

World Poker Tour Parx Open Poker Classic

Also kicking off in August is the World Poker Tour Parx Open Poker Classic held at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Running through Aug. 15, this series has nine feature events ranging in buy-ins from $225 to $3,500. The $3,500 WPT Main Event kicks off on August 10 and will be televised. That event will also have a reentry format that allows players who bust on Day 1a to reenter on Day 1b. Players in the Main Event will begin with 30,000 in tournament chips and levels will start at 60 minutes in length.

Empire State Hold'em Championships

Next on the slate is the 2012 Empire State Hold'em Championships being held Aug. 6 through 20. Hosted at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in New York, there are 16 events being held this year, culminating in the $1,650 buy-in Championship Main Event that boasts a $350,000 guarantee. In the Championship Main Event, players will begin with 30,000 in tournament chips and play 60-minute levels. Other buy-ins are as low as $185.

In all, $700,000 is guaranteed. Two cars and $40,000 are to be given away in live games plus $50,000 added to the Bad Beat Jackpot on Aug. 6.

Foxwoods Mega Stack Challenge XXV

Over the past few years, the Foxwoods Mega Stack Challenge series has attracted great numbers. Version XXV kicks off Aug. 11 and runs until Aug. 19. With $800,000 in guaranteed prize money up for grabs and plenty of events, it should to be another success.

The series features five events, but there are plenty of others on the schedule throughout the week. All of the feature events have a nice guarantee on them, and buy-ins range from $300 to $1,200. The $1,200 Main Event boasts a $200,000 guarantee where players will start with 40,000 in tournament chips and play 40-minute levels.

World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open

After the aforementioned events wrap up poker on the East Coast in August, the WPT takes to the Borgata in September for the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open. The Borgata plans to once again deliver with 26 events stretched from Sept. 5 through 21. Buy-ins for the series will be as low as $200 or as high as $3,500.

The WPT Championship event with a massive $3 million guaranteed kicks off on Sept. 16 and will have two starting days. With a reentry format, this event will attract many players and is one of the best tournaments on the circuit all year long.
