2012 World Poker Tour Copenhagen: Kjaer Leads After Day 2
Season XI of the World Poker Tour continued on Wednesday with Day 2 of the WPT Copenhagen Main Event. According to the WPT Live Updates Team, after five levels of play, only 45 of the 229 entrants remain. Frei Dilling Kjaer is the chip leader with 445,000, and joining Kjaer atop the counts are Peter Jepson, Steve ODwyer, and Sergii Baranov.
En route to the chip lead, Kjaer eliminated WPT Champions Club member Theo Jorgensen. Kjaer, who held K?K? had Jorgensen, who was all in preflop holding A?Q? dominated and held.
Despite feeling very ill, ODwyer had a spectacular day at the table. I just keep knocking people out, he told the WPT Live Updates Team.
ODwyer, whose last trip to Denmark ended with a $213,796 score for winning the WPT National Series event, was very fortunate during Level 13. He and Robin Yitalo engaged in a preflop raising war that ended with all of the chips in the middle, and the cards face up. ODwyers Q?Q? was crushed by Yitalos A?A?, but the two chopped the pot when the board ran out 5?3?2?6?4?. ODwyer finished the day with 415,600 chips.
Although he wasnt the overall chip leader entering into Day 2, Baranov, who finished runner-up to Phil Hellmuth in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, led the Day 1b field with 110,400 chips. On Day 2, he found himself in a hand against two opponents, including Rasmus Nielsen, with the board reading 7x2x2x with two spades. According to Baranov, the original raiser checked, Nielsen fired 8,000, and Baranov raised to 19,000. Only Nielsen called. The turn was the 4?, Nielsen checked, and Baranov tossed out 19,000 once again. Nielsen check-raised to 55,000, Baranov reraised to 155,000, and Nielsen folded.
Baranov tabled 5?3? face up for effectively five-high. The Ukrainian finished the day with 417,500 chips.
Andre Petrovic was the overall chip leader entering the day, but he did not survive Day 2. During Level 12, Christian Honore eliminated Petrovic with Kx10x on a board of 10x8x5x10x3x. Petrovic called all-in on the river, and didnt show his cards after Honore tabled trips.
Other notable eliminations include Ana Marquez, Anton Wigg, Elisabeth Hille, and back-to-back WPT winner Marvin Rettenmaier. During the first level of play, Rettenmaier was crippled, and after chipping up a few times he was all in with 5?5? against the K?J? of the aforementioned Petrovic. The flop fell J?10?9? giving Petrovic a pair which held as the turn and river came 7?, Q? respectively.
