Action restarted at Level 9 (400/800/100), but it didnt take long for the eliminations to mount. Lola Marques, Laurent Francois, Ben Warrington, Erwenn Pechaux, Jean-Baptiste Hall, Mustapha Houmimou, Daniel Cates and former WPT National Series Mazagan winner Roger Hairabedian were just some of the players to it the rail in the first level of play.
When Level 10 (500/1,000/100) rolled around, the WPT Live Reporting Team reported a hand that began when an unknown player raised, Gaelle Baumann called, and Nicolas Levi three-bet from the cutoff. Only Baumann called and it was heads-up action to the A?J?9? flop. Baumman checked, Levi bet 4,100, and Baumann responded with a check-raise to 11,800. Levi then three-bet to 33,600, Baumann moved all in, and Levi called off the remainder of his stack with K?Q? for the nut-flush draw with a straight draw. Baumann rolled over JxJx for a set, which held up when the 8? appeared on the turn followed by the 6? river.
Levi was soon joined on the rail by N acer Rouguy, Manuel Bevand, Matthieu Vizioz, Jerome Barre, Zimnan Ziyard, Rebecca Gerin, Aurelien Leroy, Steve ODwyer and 2011 WPT Marrakech champ Mohamed Ali Houssam, just to name a few.
Jeremy Nock, who placed fourth in the WPT National Series in Paris, then took over the chip lead Level 11 (600/1,200/200) with 170,000. It happened when, on a flop of A?8?2?, Jose Gomez got his stack all in holding two clubs only to be dominated by the A?10? of Nock. The 7? turn and 6? river were of no consequence, and Nock was awarded the pot while simultaneously eliminating Gomez from the tournament. A short time later, Nock, who would finish the day third in chips with 275,000, also eliminated Lucille Cailly.
Over the next three levels, even more players took their leave including Alexandra Petitjean, Jean Paul Benedetti, Bruno Benhamou, Bruno Benveniste, and French pro Alain Roy.
Roys exit came when Leonard Truche opened for 5,000 from middle position, Sergei Vasilyev three-bet to 16,000 from the hijack, and Roy, who was in the cutoff, moved all in for 82,700. Truche folded, but Vasilyev called with K?K?. It was a bit of a cooler for Roy, who held the inferior Q?Q?. The board ran out an uneventful 8?7?7?A?2? and a dejected Roy exited the tournament.
While many fell, a few notables managed to make it through to Day 3, including Baumann (54,000), Davidi Kitai (108,000), Fabrice Soulier (130,000), Bruno Fitoussi (148,000), and Giacomo Fundaro (157,000).
Day 3 began at 1300 WET (0800 EST) on Friday. As always, you can find a recap of the days action right here on PokerNews.
