Global Poker Index: Smith Maintains Lead; Aging WSOP Results On Tap
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player's results over six half-year periods. The seven players (last week saw a tie at 300 and 301) who fell from the GPI this week were Dan Murariu, Massimo Mosele, Peter Ippolito, Rocco Palumbo, Stephane Albertini, Nick Wong and Nick Yunis.
Ups and Downs
The biggest rise of the week belonged to Jake Bazeley. A constant GPI bubble boy around No. 300, Bazeley has some breathing room (for this week) after his runner-up showing in the Heartland Poker Tour Main Event in Florence, Indiana.

Jeffrey Rossiter had the biggest fall this week. He fell 37 places after his third-place finish in the APPT Macau Main Event from 2011 aged into Period 3. The winner of that event, Randy Lew, fell 27 places.

What's In Store?
With the World Poker Tour event from Montreal in the books, there will be a few GPI ripples next week. Third-place finisher Jeff Gross will see a nice boost from his current No. 234 standing, while fourth-place finisher Gavin Smith will jump back into the top 100.
Over the next seven weeks, results from the 2012 World Series of Poker will begin to age into Period 2. The effects will be felt next week for Vanessa Selbst (No. 11), Daniel Negreanu (No. 20), Tommy Vedes (No. 33) and the aforementioned Bazeley (No. 201). Though, aging scores could be good things for players as there Period 2 could receive a nice jolt while there Period 1 may not take too much of a hit if they have good recent results.
