PokerStars Granted License From The German State Of Schleswig-Holstein
PokerStars has been granted a license from the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, making it one of the first regulated online poker operators in Germany. This license will allow the worlds largest online poker site, which already holds seven online gaming licenses in France, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Estonia, Malta and the Isle of Man, to offer real-money cash games and tournaments in Germany.
By opening up the market, Schleswig-Holstein has demonstrated its understanding of German players needs and the prevailing market reality, said Guy Templer, head of business development at PokerStars. Thanks to Schleswig-Holstein gambling law (GlG S-H), consumer protection, jobs and regulation can be reliably implemented.
Schleswig-Holstein passed legislation in September 2011 to allow sports betting and online poker as long as the sites were established in the European Union. In May of this year, the German state granted online sports betting licenses to Bet365, bwin.party, bet-at-home and Tipico.
"Schleswig-Holstein's regulatory regime represents an important step in building a vibrant and competitive German online gaming market, bwin.party CEO Norbert Teufelberger said back in May. This EU-compliant regime is a fundamentally important step to protect consumers and keep out black-market operators in Germany."
