Only 23 remain from the starting field of 782 at the 5,300 buy-in 2013 PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Main Event, with Cyril Andre of France leading the remaining players as the only one with more than 2 million in chips. Andres fellow countrymen Remi Castaignon, Hugo Pingray, Aurelien Guiglini and Matthieu Herve round out an all-French top five heading into Fridays Day 5.

After the bubble burst on Day 3, play began on Day 4 with only 51 players left, and it would take just a little over three hour-and-a-half levels for the field quickly to be trimmed down to the final three tables.

Andre began play with an above-average stack, and had already added to it when a big hand arose between him and Lucien Cohen that saw the latter check-call all three post-flop streets as the board came 9?4?2?A?4?. The final call was for the last of Cohens chips, but his A?10? (aces and fours) was no good versus Andres 2?2? (full house), and Cohen was out in 28th place for a 19,000 cash.

Cohen keeps a large, conspicuous plastic rat at the table with him, and so at the end of the night Andre wrote dratiseur on his bag rat killer as a jokey reference to his elimination of Cohen, a key hand for him during Day 4.

The days other main plot line concerned start-of-day chip leader Shahaf Hadaya, who experienced a bad run of fortune during the first two hours of play to go out in 32nd place (also for 19,000).

Pocket kings proved especially unlucky for Hadaya, as he lost repeatedly with them including once against [Removed:4] when a 1.5 million-plus chip pot was at stake. Another hand saw the player from Israel lose with the K?K? against Gordon Huntlys A?A?, and, down to a relative short stack, Hadaya was ultimately eliminated by Yury Gulyy to see his EPT Deauville Main Event run end prematurely.

Other notable eliminations on Thursday included Ionel Anton (51st, 13,500), Salvatore Bonavena (48th, 13,500), Thomas Butzhammer (43rd, 13,500), Lucas Reeves (42nd, 13,500), Jason Koon (39th, 16,000), Alexander Dovzhenko (26th, 16,000) and Sam Grafton (24th, 23,000).

Graftons elimination came on the very last hand of play after Massimo Di Cicco was knocked out in 25th place (19,000) and play was halted for the night to redraw for three eight-handed tables. That last hand saw Grafton reraise-push a short stack with the K?6? against Glen Cymbaluks A?9?, flop a pair of sixes, but ultimately lose when Cymbaluk drew runner-runner two pair.

Eric Sfez, last years EPT Deauville High Roller champion, is also still alive with a just-below-average stack, good for 14th position of the final 23.

Play resumes at the Casino Barrire de Deauville on Friday at 12:00 p.m. CET. Check back then for live updates from the Main Event on PokerNews, and also be sure to look in on reports from the 10,300 High Roller as well.
