Melbourne's Crown Casino Investigating $33 Million Heist

Crown Casino

Crown Casino located in Melbourne, Australia is the country's largest gaming venue, playing host each year to the Aussie Millions. According to a report from the Herald Sun, the casino recently alerted the authorities that a foreign high roller had hacked into the security surveillance system and made away with over $30 million.

The report alleges that the scammer used the casino's own surveillance system against it to assist in orchestrating the heist. A report from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation stated, "Crown's surveillance system includes cameras that can pan, tilt and zoom in on gaming tables. There is extra surveillance in the premium gaming rooms where high rollers put millions of dollars on the line."

In the report from ABC, Deakin University Professor Linda Hancock said that it appeared an employee from Crown worked with the main perpetrator to carry out the robbery. It was not disclosed how many people may be involved in the robbery or which casino games were involved, and no names have been released. ABC has confirmed that the Victoria Police are involved in the investigation.

A report from MSN News stated that the thief has been identified through video surveillance and that a member of the casino's VIP staff has been dismissed as a result of the incident.

PokerNews has reached out to Crown Casino, but officials are unable to comment at this time. Stay tuned as more information becomes available on this developing story.
