2013 WPT Legends of Poker Day 4: Phil Laak and Dan Heimiller Headline Final Table
The World Poker Tour Legends of Poker reached a final table on Tuesday at the completion of Day 4 action, and leading the final six players is Ryan Goindoo. Goindoo, winner of the 2011 California State Poker Championship, bagged 5.57 million chips, and will be joined at the final table by Jordan Cristos, Josh Gordon, Alex Masek, Dan Heimiller, and Phil Laak, who finished sixth in this event in 2003.
Rank | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | Ryan Goindoo | 5,570,000 |
2 | Phil Laak | 4,730,000 |
3 | Jordan Cristos | 4,265,000 |
4 | John Gordon | 2,935,000 |
5 | Alex Masek | 2,890,000 |
6 | Dan Heimiller | 1,070,000 |
Day 4 began with 15 players, and Heimiller received a huge double straight away. Patrick Karschamroon three-bet shoved against Heimiller on a jack-high flop, and Heimiller called with ace-jack. Karschamroon turned over a wired pair of sixes, Heimillers hand held up, and he assumed the chip lead with 4.1 million.
The first players to exit were Ron Jenkins, Richard Munro, Stephen Graner, and Sam Barnhart. Graner was all in and at risk for roughly 900,000 during Level 25 (15,000/30,000/5,000) with top pair against Gordons bottom pair and a flush draw. Gordon never received a fifth heart, but a queen on the river gave him a winning two pair. Barnhart, winner of the first ever World Series of Poker National Championship, lost a preflop race against Shahen Martirosian.
With the elimination of Cherng Hua in 11th place, the unofficial final table was set. The next elimination came five hands later when Goindoo sent Brian Gorman packing. During Level 26 (20,000/40,000/5,000), Goindoo raised to 100,000 then called a 465,000-chip shove from a short-stacked Gorman. Gormans ace-queen was slightly ahead of Goindoos king-six, but Goindoo hit a six on the flop and on the turn.
Goindoo recorded another knockout 47 hands later when Martirosian moved all in with top pair and a flush draw on the turn of a jack-high board. Goindoo called with a better kicker, and Martirosian missed his flush on the river.
Eight-handed play lasted 34 hands, and ended when a short-stacked Garrett Greer moved all in for 255,000 from early position with the blinds at 30,000/60,000/10,000. Heimiller called in the hijack seat, risking more than a fifth of his stack, and Masek raised to over 1 million from the small blind. Heimiller folded, Masek turned over two queens, and Greer tabled queen-six. There was a six on the flop, but Greer couldnt catch lightning in a bottle, and was eliminated.
The official final table was set 16 hands later in Level 29 (40,000/80,000/10,000). Cristos raised to 180,000 in the hijack seat, Karschamroon moved all in for 1.275 million in the small blind, and Cristos called. Cristos pocket jacks outraced Karschamroon's ace-queen, sending him to the rail.
The final six players will return on Wednesday at 4 p.m. PDT. Be on the lookout for a final recap of this event on Thursday.
