This summer at the 2013 World Series of Poker, early sign-ups were allowed for WSOP.com online poker. For those that took advantage of the early sign-up process an estimated 12,000 people Christmas came a little bit early. Originally slated to begin real-money play on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 9:19 a.m. PST, players located in Nevada who preregistered for WSOP.com were invited to play on the site.

After receiving notification via email on Tuesday, players had the ability to download the WSOP.com client through a special link. The updated client included real-money cash games, sit-n-gos, and multi-table tournaments. This marks the first official competitor to Ultimate Poker, the first legally-regulated online poker site that launched at the end of April.

While Ultimate Poker only offers no-limit and limit Hold'em, WSOP.com has a few more poker variants available in pot-limit Omaha, limit Omaha eight-or-better, limit seven-card stud, and limit seven-card stud eight-or-better.

The site also features a loyalty program named the Action Club, satellites to live events including the World Series of Poker Europe, and in October the site will host the WSOP.com Online Championships, a nine-tournament series with $500,000 in added money. The nine winners of the Online Championships will compete in a sit-n-go titled the Online Nine, which will coincide with the November Nine.
