Global Poker Index: Daniel Negreanu Rebounds; Phillip Gruissem Falls From Top 10
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player's results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

There were no changes in the top 10 of the GPI Player of the Year again this week. Germany's Ole Schemion maintained his slight lead over Paul Volpe and Daniel Negreanu, but there may be a shift in the rankings after the completion of the European Poker Tour stop in London, which is currently taking place.
Several notables made big jumps in the POY rankings this week, including Joe Serock (up 11 spots to No. 14), Joe Kuether (up 15 spots to No. 26), Martin Finger (up 69 spots to No. 36), Vanessa Selbst (up 37 spots to No. 44), and November Niner David Benefield (up 29 spots to No. 47). Serock is coming off a third-place finish at the PPC Aruba Championship and is creeping closer toward the Top 10. Meanwhile, Finger and Selbst each won a High Roller event in London last week.

10 | Jason Mercier | 2802.56 | +2 |
After dropping six spots to No. 8 last week, Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu bounced back by climbing back to No. 4 this week. Negreanu has only once cash since the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, a runner-up finish at the European Poker Tour Barcelona High Roller. With the EPT in full swing, Negreanu is a good bet to close the year in the top five, and maybe even make a run at Rettenmaier for the top position.
Negreanu benefitted from a big drop by German Phillip Gruissem who fell nine spots to No. 13, leaving him out of the Top 10 for the first time in 30 weeks. Gruissem's High Roller victory at the WSOP-APAC in April aged into the second period of the GPI formula, and his deep runs at the WSOP-Europe and EPT Sanremo last October aged into Period 3.
Rejoining the Top 10 this week were Bryn Kenney and Jason Mercier. Mercier dropped out of the Top 10 for the first time ever last week but his absence was shortlived.
