Tropicana Receives Fifth Internet Gambling Permit in New Jersey 0001

With less than a month to go before the start of New Jersey's Internet Gambling trial run, a fifth operator has received a permit from the Division of Gaming Enforcement. The Tropicana Casino and Resort was issued a license on Monday, allowing the operator to offer real-money services to gamblers located within state lines.

New Jersey plans to go live with Web gambling on Nov. 26 after a five-day trial period starting on Nov. 21. The state began awarding permits to operators this month, with the first going to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino have also received licenses.

The Tropicana has partnered up with European online gambling company Gamesys, which is set to run the casino's online software platform. This will mark the first venture into the U.S. for Gamesys, which last year became the first company to offer real-money gambling through Facebook in the UK.

"Both Tropicana and Gamesys are looking forward to introducing our customers to a new level of gaming through its online offerings, which will both entertain and raise the bar in gaming experience," said Tropicana president and CEO Tony Rodio, according to the Associated Press.

Atlantic City, N.J. has 12 brick-and-mortar casinos, of which 10 have revealed plans for online gambling. Five of those are still waiting on a permit. Caesars Entertainment owns four properties and has partnered with 888 Holdings for its New Jersey Web gaming operation. The other establishment awaiting a license is Resorts Casino Hotel, which has teamed up with global online poker leader PokerStars.

Revel Casino Hotel and The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel have not revealed any plans to enter the iGaming space, and according to gaming expert Brad Polizzano, New Jersey attorney Lloyd Levenson has stated that neither property will move forward.
