According to a survey conducted by Poker Affiliate Solutions, 46.6 percent of New Jersey residents are "not at all familiar" with the state's plan to launch legal, regulated online gaming this month, and 9 percent are "not familiar."

Of the approximately 500 people surveyed, 62.2 percent of respondents said that they would "definitely not play," while 8 percent "definitely will play."

Respondents between the ages of 35-44 (53) were the most familiar with the pending launch over 58 percent of those polled responded with three or higher when asked to rate their familiarity one a scale from one (not familiar) to five (very familiar).

In their summary, Poker Affiliate Solutions says, "In terms of challenges, the survey data suggests that a vast majority of New Jersey residents are under-informed or completely uninformed regarding the impending rollout of legal, regulated online gambling in New Jersey."

Poker Affiliate Solutions believes that misconceptions will set in among the uninformed residents of the Garden State, and if there are problems at the launch, they will dominate the narrative within the state.

There is positive news. After "definitely will not play," undecided consumers make up the largest cohort in the survey's results. If the online gaming companies in New Jersey can lure this group of individuals, then the player pool will increase a considerable amount.

The survey was conducted from Oct. 16-21 using Google Consumer Surveys (GSC). Other than location, no filters were applied to the population sample. The top-level conclusions of the survey were judged statistically significant by the GCS.
