Borgata Winter Poker Open Day 7: 313 Advance in Event #8; McKeehen Eyes 2nd Title
There was only one event in action on Day 7 of the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open. Days 1b and 1c of Event #8: $400 $250,000 Guaranteed Deeper Stack NLHE Re-Entry took place inside the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.
After a full 16 levels for both flights, Day 1 of Event #8 came to a close early Tuesday morning. Chris Kash appropriately cashed in the $2,000 prize for bagging the top stack of 426,000 on Day 1b. Pocketing $1,000 for the second-biggest stack was Efraim Hirschman, who finished with 417,000. Other big stacks include Matthew Elson (383,000), Ryan Austin (367,500), TJ Shulman (355,000) Coleem Chestnut (316,000), Gionni de Mers (279,000), and Joseph Liberta (275,500).
Jason Rivkin bagged and tagged the biggest stack on Day 1c, as his 375,500 just squeaked by Joe McKeehen's 350,000. Both players have plenty of experience (McKeehen already won an event in this series), so having an arsenal of ammunition at their disposal makes each a threat to continue the dominance on Day 2.
Others worth paying attention to include James Mendenhall (315,000), Andrew Glancy (276,500), Ed O'Connell (225,000), Raj Khanna (225,000), Julian Sacks (211,000), Jacob Wagschal (203,000), Megan Milburn (150,000), Charles Ciresi (106,000), Dan Heimiller (99,000) and Amanda Musumeci (80,500).
They will all join survivors from Day 1a, which took place on Sunday. Topping the leader board from the first flight were David Gerassi (429,000), Luke Edwards (410,000), Matt Lin (381,000), and David Attebery (372,000). Gerassi was the overall chip leader entering Day 2 after using an unorthodox style to accumulate his massive stack on Day 1a.
There were a number of notables and local grinders who whiffed in the Day 1c flight, as Men Nguyen, Cotton Snuffer, Stephen Burns and Raj Patel all failed to advance or improve on the stacks they built in earlier flights.
Event #8 began with 1,392 entries and was trimmed down to 313 runners after the three starting flights:

Getting underway on Tuesday will be Event #10: $450 buy-in Deepest Stack No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry and Event #11: $450 buy-in Big Stack Pot-Limit Omaha Re-Entry. Event #10 is a two-day event, and Event #1 is a one-day event which will play down to a winner today (or early Wednesday morning).
