PokerStars Announces $8 Million Sunday Million Anniversary on March 2 0001

PokerStars will celebrate the eighth anniversary of the Sunday Million on March 2 by guaranteeing a massive $8 million prize pool, of which at least $1 million will go to the eventual winner.

The flagship Sunday tournament will keep its $215 buy-in for the special anniversary event and begin at the usual time of 14:30 ET. Satellites will be available for as little as $1, starting with the hourly $1 feeder tourneys that get under way on Sunday, Feb. 23. The $1 feeder satellites will then take place every half-hour from Friday, Feb. 28.

PokerStars will also host two special Deadline Satellites on the day of the 8th Anniversary Sunday Million, which guarantee a total of 1,333 seats. A $33 Deadline Satellite will take place at 13:30 ET on March 2, guaranteeing at least 333 Sunday Million seats. An $11 Deadline Satellite will commence at the same time and send at least 1,000 players to the anniversary event for a chance to win life-changing money.

"Each week the Sunday Million is the tournament that everyone wants to win, with players scheduling their weekends around it," said Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree. "The Anniversary tournament is even more unmissable, though, because its not often you can win enough money playing online poker for a few hours to buy a house.

Last year, PokerStars tagged a $7 million guaranteed prize pool to its 7th Anniversary Sunday Million, with at least $1 million going to the winner. The special event attracted more than 49,000 players, making it the third largest Sunday Million ever. A three-way deal at the final table resulted in Lithuania's "benislovas" earning $848,589. High-stakes cash game player David "sexygee" Gent finished runner-up for $836,324, and Germany's "Kasra84" secured $813,370 for third place.

The biggest Sunday Million ever is still PokerStars 10th Anniversary Sunday Million in December 2011. That tournament, which boasts the largest prize pool in online poker history, saw 62,116 players generate prize pool of $12,423,200, and was won by Canada's Kyle "First-Eagle" Weir for $1,146,574.
