2014 APAT World Championship of Amateur Poker Begins
The Amateur Poker Association & Tour's (APAT) 2014 World Championship of Amateur Poker kicked off on Tuesday April 15 with the first two of the 16 bracelet-awarding events. These 16 events have buy-ins ranging from ��55 to ��220, making them accessible for recreational players who want to play in a prestigious, well-structured event but don't want too much money at risk.
In addition to the prize pools created, there is extra value to be had thanks to APAT adding three trips to Las Vegas, commemorative bracelets and medals with a combined estimated value of ��50,000.
The first event, the ��55 No Limit Hold'em Championship, was completed on April 15 and proved to be extremely popular. APAT increased the player cap from the planned 120, allowing 165 players to buy in. Those 165 hopefuls were outlasted by Van Thang Nguyen who bulldozed his way to victory, netting him ��2,17 in cash, a gold medal and a commemorative championship bracelet.

Also booking a win was Fred Bekker who beat 29 opponents on his way to claiming the title of WCOAP Seven Card Stud Champion. Like Nguyen, Bekker won a gold medal and bracelet, in addition to ��625 in prize money.
There are still 14 more events to play at the Aspers Stratford Westfield including a ��220 High Roller and the eagerly anticipated World Championship Main Event.
