Byron Kaverman Sets World Poker Tour Single-Season Record for Most Cashes
After a statistical correction, it was revealed that Byron Kaverman cashed seven times during Season XII of the World Poker Tour. Not only is this a very impressive feat accomplished by Kaverman, but it also sets a new single-season record.
Kaverman's record-setting season was one that saw him cash in one-third of the events on the WPT's schedule. There were 21 events available on the main tour for Season XII. According to Kaverman he played in 14 of them, finishing in the money in half, but he isn't one that's going to hang a giant banner on the front of his house announcing that he's the current record holder.
"I've had a fun and successful year at the WPT events, but as far as the record is concerned I could care less," Kaverman said. "I have never really considered records, such as most points or whatever, to be very relevant because at the end of the day it's all about the result."
The "result" from these seven cashes is nearly $800,000 in prize money, and it's often the money that matters most when it comes to poker players. With those seven cashes, Kaverman earned $796,151 and 1,500 WPT Player of the Year points, which landed him 12th on the Season XII POY leaderboard tied with Blake Purvis. His best result which also turned out to be the biggest score of his career came in the recent season-ending WPT World Championship. Kaverman finished second to champion Keven Stammen for $727,860.
Here's a look at Kaverman's entire WPT Season XII:

Kaverman, who now boasts over $2.6 million in live tournament earnings, currently sits in the No. 7 spot on the Global Poker Index 300 with 3,260.66 points, his highest ranking ever.
"I'll be in Vegas most of the summer and then will be moving to San Diego in August," Kaverman added when asked what's next for him. "I have spent most of the last few years traveling and it's been great, but I am looking forward to a more balanced lifestyle."
Players with six cashes on the WPT include Stammen (Season XII), Matt Salsberg (Season XI), Lee Markholt (Season V and Season VI), Abraham Gray (Season IV), and Barry Greenstein (Season IV).
