PokerStars Canada Cup Main Event Day 1c: Registration Closes with $266K Overlay 0001

Day 1c of the PokerStars Canada Cup $3,300 Main Event has played through 10 one-hour levels and play has halted until Sunday for Day 2. The event has a massive $2,000,000 guarantee on the prize pool which was not met by the 578 total entries, meaning there is a large overlay to bring the prize pool up to the $2,000,000 promise.

Day 1c received 288 entries on Saturday, the last day to qualify for Day 2 in this next-day reentry tournament. One hundred and thirty one of those players survived the day and will continue in the tournament. At the end of play, three players had stacks tipping over the 200,000 mark. Alex Cordero sat on top with 244,400, followed by Domenico Agatiello with 227,500 and Marcello Delgrasso with 202,000. Day 1a chip leader Jeremy Thompson still has the largest stack going in to Day 2 with 260,000.

Here are the 10 largest stacks from Day 1c:

The prize pool is set at the guaranteed $2,000,000, giving $366,660 to first place along with the gleaming PokerStars Canada Cup trophy. The 578 total entries make up $1,734,000 of the prize pool, leaving a $266,000 overlay for the event, according to our calculations.

With word of a large overlay spreading through social media, a few last-minute entries come out to get a piece of the added value.

There are 240 total surviving players from all three starting days, and they return on Sunday at 11 a.m. to resume play. The field appears to be a very difficult one, and there will be plenty of great poker played over the remaining days. Among those still playing are poker powerhouses like 2014 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Champion Eric Afriat, Patrick Braga, Yann Dion, WSOP Main Event winner and Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel, Jason Duval, top money earner in the world Antonio Esfandiari, Lucas Greenwood, Jeff Gross, Chanracy Khun, Team PokerStars Online Pro Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Pascal Lefrancois, Derek Lerner, Jonas Mackoff, Kevin MacPhee, Michael Malm, Will Molson, Jonathan Roy, Sylvain Siebert, EPT High Roller Champion Steve Silverman, Shyam Srinivasan, Charles Sylvestre with his WSOP bracelet and WSOP Circuit ring, TJ Ulmer, and Mike Watson.
