2014 World Series of Poker Day 14: Ted Gillis and Kory Kilpatrick Win Gold
Two more bracelets were won on Monday in another busy day at the 2014 World Series of Poker. Ted Gillis (pictured) won the gold in Event #19: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem while Kory Kilpatrick outlasted a tough final table to triumph in Event #20: $3,000 No-Limit Holdem Shootout, with both players earning their first career bracelets.
Meanwhile three other events were in action including the star-studded Event #22: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, with all three playing down to final days today. Heres a look at yesterdays highlights:
Event #19: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem
Event #19 saw a Texan win a Texas holdem bracelet as Ted Gillis of Houston bested a field of 2,086 to win the title and $514,027 first prize. The win marked only a second lifetime WSOP cash for Gillis, his first coming last year in another $1,500 NLHE event where he finished 172nd for $2,912.
After Matt Ditonto (14th) and Max Silver (13th) were eliminated on the same hand by Hiren Patel to end Day 2 on Sunday, Patel carried the chip lead to yesterdays final day of play as just 12 returned. The Day 3 eliminations then began with another double-knockout of Ron McMillen (12th) and Gregg Merkow (11th), then after Darin Stout was eliminated in 10th the final table was set, with those three each picking up $29,709.
Then came yet another double-KO as Dejan Divkovic used K?K? to felt both Dylan Thomassie (ninth) and Edison Shields (eighth) in a three-way all in that saw Shieldss A?A? and Thomassies 10?9? both beaten when the two other kings came to give Divkovic quads.
That hand gave the player from Bosnia and Herzegovia the lead with seven left, with Divkovic next knocking out start-of-day-leader Patel in seventh to add further to his advantage.
Next to go were Jaime Kaplan (in sixth), Mustapha Kanit (in fifth), and Jacobo Fernandez (in fourth), with Gillis lying low throughout and not involved in any of the eliminations.
Gillis then used A?Q? versus Divkovics A?6? to eliminate the latter in third and carry a chip advantage to heads-up play versus John Hennigan. After chipping Hennigan down, Gillis won another all-in on the 27th hand between them with A?6? versus Hennigans Q?9? to win.

Event #20: $3,000 No-Limit Holdem Shootout
Meanwhile Kory Kilpatrick won the days other awarded bracelet after topping a talented final table in the $3,000 NLHE Shootout, earning his first WSOP win and a nice $254,891 payday for winning three tables in three days. It was the biggest live score to date for the Georgia-based player, nearly double his previous best for a third-place finish at a Hollywood Poker Open event last summer.
With the 10 final tablists all returning to roughly even stacks to start the day, it took a while for this final table to play out. More 80 hands went by before Narenda Banwari went out in 10th, then it was after the dinner break before Dylan Linde followed in ninth and Michael Stonehill was eliminated in eighth.
Three players entered this final table having won one WSOP bracelet before, and those three would then be knocked out in order as Taylor Paur (out in seventh), Phil Galfond (out in sixth), and Chris Bell (out in fifth) successively hit the rail.
Meanwhile Kilpatrick had assumed the lead, added more after picking up pocket aces to oust Jack Duong in fourth, then used A?8? to beat a short-stacked Noah Bronsteins 5?5? when an eight came among the community cards, sending Bronstein railward in third.
With a 2-to-1 lead to start heads-up play against Eric Wasserson, Kilpatrick
needed just 20 hands more to win after whittling his opponent down, then having his A?J? survive an all-in versus Wassersons J?10? to claim the last of the chips.

Sitting just behind the leaders is a formidable group including David Benyamine, Justin Bonomo, and Miami John Cernuto, with plenty of other top talent still alive including Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand ElkY Grospellier who made it through with below average stacks.
They barely reached the cash last night as only the top 24 out of the 200 entrants make the money in this one, with Chris Klodnicki (24th), Greg Mueller (23rd), and Tom Koral (22nd) busting near the end of play to earn $18,254 apiece. A first prize of $507,614 awaits the winner.

Event #23: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Holdem
The plan for the first day of the two-day Event #23: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Holdem event had been to play either 22 half-hour levels or down to a final table of nine, whichever came first. As it happened, it was at the end of Level 22 that the official final table was reached last night, and so just nine players from a starting field of 1,473 will be returning today, with Doug Polk the chip leader.
The top 171 finishers made the money, with 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess (136th, $1,909) among the initial rapidly crashing waves of players making the cash.
