2014 WSOP Day 34: Zhang, Langmann Win; Trickett Day 1 Big One for One Drop Leader
There were six events in action on Sunday at the 2014 World Series of Poker, highlighted by the start of Event #57: The $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop where Sam Trickett has jumped out to an early lead.
Meanwhile two bracelets were claimed yesterday as Haixia Zhang won the Event #53: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Holdem Championship and Florian Langmann earned the victory in Event #54: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low.
Heres a rundown of all of the action from another busy day at the WSOP.
Event #51: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem Monster Stack
There were 62 returners from the huge starting field of 7,864 in Event #51: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem Monster Stack, and after a mostly rapid-paced fourth day of play just nine remain with Hugo Pingray the chip leader, followed by Sean Drake, Thayer Rasmussen, and Joseph McKeehen.
Following the early wave of knockouts on Sunday, Tom Alner (41st, $32,584), Vladimir Bozinovic (40th, $32,584), Bolivar Palacios (32nd, $40,332), Jason Duval (31st, $40,332), Paul Mattioda (22nd, $50,202), Mathew Frankland (16th, $62,726), and Tony Sinishtaj (14th, $78,965) were among those earning nice paydays despite coming up shy of the final table.
All nine of the final tablists have guaranteed themselves six-figure paydays for this $1,500 buy-in event as ninth-place pays $127,364. Meanwhile an enormous $1,327,083 prize awaits Mondays champion.

Event #53: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Holdem Championship
Over in the Ladies event they began with nine players left yesterday from the 793 total entrants. The pace was moved briskly there, too, and after just 87 hands at the final table Haixia Zhang earned the bracelet and title.
Following the quick knockouts of Patricia Cahill in ninth and Stacey Sullivan in eighth, Kendra Wray fell in a hand versus eventual winner Zhang to finish seventh. Daughter of WSOP bracelet holder, Larry Wright, Wray came just a few places shy of making those two the first ever father-daughter bracelet duo.
Persia Bonella followed in sixth, then after having survived an early drama-filled all-in, Patty Landis saw her tourney run finish in fifth, thus ending an exciting Ladies event for Daniel Negreanus personal assistant. Elizabeth Montizanti went out two hands later in fourth and then Meikat Siu a while after that in third, and they were down to two.
Zhang and start-of-day-leader Mikiyo Aoki were nearly even in chips to start heads-up play with Zhang slightly ahead, and after 10 hands between them Zhang had widened the lead after a key hand in which she made a straight to earn a big pot. Then the pair got the last of Aokis chips in the middle with Zhang holding A?6? and Aoki J?7?. The board ran out 5?3?9?10?10?, and Zhang had won.

Event #54: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low
Event #54 then saw Florian Langmann walk away with the gold on Sunday after emerging from the 20 survivors of a starting field of 474. It was the first career bracelet and largest tourney score for the German who currently only plays tournaments occasionally while focusing more on cash games, as he explained to us just prior to the start of yesterdays final table.
By then Lee Markholt (19th, $9,291), Eoghan ODea (18th, $11,607), Fabrice Soulier (15th, $14,648), Paul Volpe (13th, $14,648), and Ted Lawson (11th, $18,941) had been among those going out early on Day 3, and with nine left Langmann enjoyed a considerable chip lead with nearly twice the stack of Woody Deck in second position.
The field continued to dwindle with Langmann responsible for taking out Jonathan Depa in eighth, Deck in seventh, and Antony Lellouche in sixth, while maintaining the advantage.
By the time theyd reach three-handed Zach Freeman had nearly caught Langmann, but after the latter knocked out Dylan Wilkerson in third he again was well in front with a better than 6-to-1 chip advantage to start heads-up play with Freeman.
After doubling a couple of times, Freeman would then be all in again following a 9?3?4? flop holding A?K?J?3? versus Langmanns A?10?8?6?. The turn was the Q? and river the 8?, giving Langmann both the high and the low, all of the chips, and the Event #54 bracelet.

Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem
There was another low buy-in, big field NLHE in action on Sunday as Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem got started. A big field of 2,525 turned out for the event, building a prize pool of $2,272,500 with $403,483 reserved for the eventual champion.
They were able to burst the cash bubble in this one late last night as the top 270 finishers made the money, and when all was done just 206 players remained with Raymond Chen leading the counts and Giang Hoang not far behind.
Vinny Pahuja (in fourth), Larry Gurney (ninth), Steve Gross (12th), Alex Masek (16th), Perry Friedman (20th), and Matt Salsberg (21st) all bagged up above average stacks as well.

Event #57: The $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop
Of course, it was the $1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop earning most of the attention yesterday once it began, with lots of focus on who would be making up the field for this second installment of the $1 million event.
In all there were 42 players taking part, with a rumored last-minute entry of Phil Hellmuth proving not to materialize. That field is down from the 48 who played the Big One for One Drop two years ago. Still, that group created an enormous $37,333,338 prize pool to be divided buy the top eight finishers, with a $15,306,668 first prize awaiting Tuesdays champion.
Sam Trickett the Big One for One Drop runner-up two years ago enjoyed the spotlight for much of Day 1, scoring big early knockouts of David Einhorn (the tournaments first elimination), Igor Kurganov (whose queens were cracked by Tricketts rivered straight), and Vanessa Selbst to grab the lead early and maintain it straight through to nights end.
The Trickett-Selbst hand was particularly dramatic, as Selbst was all in before the flop with A?K? versus Tricketts K?K?, an ace flopped, then the case king fell on the turn to oust Selbst.
Tom Hall, Phil Ivey, and Daniel Colman also did well on Day 1 to occupy the next three spots in the counts, with 2012 Big One for One Drop winner Antonio Esfandiari right there again, too, in fifth position.
Other players falling on the first day included Stanley Choi, Max Altergott, Brian Rast, Philipp Gruissem, Jason Mercier, Niklas Heinecker, Dan Smith, and Rono Lo.
