Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a players results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

Dan Smith continues to lead the 2014 GPI Player of the Year race after another relatively quiet week. Among the top 10, both Jason Mercier and Jacob Schindler managed to move up a couple of spots from their positions a week ago. While currently fifth-ranked Daniel Colman collected yet another big cash prize this week by picking up 600,000 ($959,622) for his victory in the World Poker Tour Alpha8 London event, that win is not reflected in this weeks rankings.

Indeed, there was little movement among the entire top 50 in the POY race, although as mentioned last week results from the 2014 PokerStars.com UKIPT Isle of Man, 2014 PokerStars.com EPT Season 11 London, and the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific should start to affect the rankings as the year begins to wind toward its close.

Meanwhile in the overall GPI rankings the top nine positions remained unchanged while Vanessa Selbst climbed from No. 14 to No. 10 to reclaim a spot inside the top 10 after three months. Selbst's spent two weeks atop the GPI rankings back in June.

Since the GPI rankings began in early 2011, Selbst has consistently remained inside the top 50 aside from a brief three-week period in September 2013, spending nearly all of her time in the GPI's top 20.
