UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up: Double Delight For Ben Dobson
The nights are growing longer and it won't be long until the festive season is upon us. One young man who looks set to have an amazing Christmas is the popular grinder Ben Dobson.
Dobson, who recently married, is on a real high right now after a run of results at PokerStars that banked him in excess of $180,000. On Sunday, Dobson finished fourth in the Sunday Million and netted $103,638.84 after a five-way chop. Two days later, he turned his $1,050 Super Tuesday entry into $78,680.00 after he finished in second place.
Following those epic results Dobson should soar up the UK online poker rankings when they are next updated on Dec. 3 and could climb into the top 20. Here, Dobson's name would feature among Patrick Leonard, Rick Trigg, Chris Moorman, and Team PokerStars Pro Online's Vicente Delgado, who has been in superb form for the past couple of weeks.
Next, let's move away from the online poker world and into brick-and-mortar venues. First up is the inaugural MADchester Poker Open, a Paddy Power Poker-run event that attracted 169 players to the Manchester 235 casino.
Despite the lower buy-in of 550, the MADchester Poker Open welcomed American stars Chino Rheem and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, but they were both outlasted as was the entire field by Shah Athar, who walked away with the 27,000 first-place prize plus a seat in the 2015 Irish Open Main Event.
While Athar was busy taking down the MADchester Poker Open, London-based Lithuanian pro Matas Cimbolas was grinding his way to victory in the 2014 partypoker WPT UK Main Event a result that banked him a cool 200,000. What made his victory more outstanding was the fact that he came back from a near six-to-one deficit to emerge victorious.
By the time the next UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up hits your screens, two more major live events will have crowned their champions. Currently running as we type this is the Unibet Open London Main Event at Aspers Casino and the 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Grand Final at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino, or "The Vic" as it is otherwise known.
Nathan Dippie demolished the Unibet Open London Day 1a field, while Raul Martinez fared best in the GUKPT Grand Final's opening flight.
