The past several days have been relatively quiet in regards to poker in the United Kingdom and Ireland, but there has still been plenty to talk about. Some of the companies listed on the London Stock Exchange posted excellent figures, there were the usual tournament scores, and a football legend discovered poker and seemed to fall in love with the game.

William Hill is a name that all British people are familiar with thanks to the bookmaking giant being a permanent fixture on our high streets for almost hundred years. Business is booming for William Hill right now, something that pleases its shareholders no end.

Another company doing well of late is Playtech, who revealed to the stock market it is enjoying its "strongest-ever quarterly performance."

Let's push business to one side and take a look at the goings on at the felt. In the online poker world, Marc Wright helped himself to a near-$30,000 score when he finished second in the partypoker $250,000 guarantee, while the in-form Patrick Leonard continued his quest to return to the number one place in the worldwide online poker rankings by jumping up to third place, this on the back on yet another five-figure score at the weekend.

In the live poker arena, the 2014 Genting Poker Series Edinburgh Main Event kicked off on Oct. 30 with 87 players ponying up the 440 asking prize. The final starting flight commences on the afternoon of Oct. 31 and should see upwards of 200 entrants buy in.

Also taking part in some live poker action was the Nottingham Forest manager and former England captain Stuart Pearce. The man affectionately known as "Psycho" was helping partypoker to promote the upcoming WPT500 UK event that features a 1 million guaranteed prize pool for a 500 buy-in.

Pearce instantly fell in love with poker and we won't be surprised to see him at the poker tables in the near future.

Last not but least was the announcement of another online poker festival, one that features 41 events over an eight day period with combined prize pools of 250,000. The Sky Poker UKOPS XI also awards the winners of its main events and high rollers with a commemorative bracelet, much like the World Series of Poker!
