Much of the United Kingdom has been under attack from Jack Frost this past week, but that has not stopped there being some hot news hitting the UK & Ireland PokerNews site.

The first piece of positivity was discovering that Ludovic Geilich had helped himself to another major live title. The Scottish hyper-aggressive tournament specialist Geilich burst onto the live poker circuit in 2013 when he became the UKIPT Marbella champion. That particular result netted him 130,000 and although this latest haul was not anywhere near that sum, it is still a welcomed addition to Geilich's bankroll so early on in the year.

Geilich topped a field of 258 players in the Grosvenor 25/25 series, a 200 buy-in event that featured a 25,000 guarantee. This figure was smashed and 51,600 was what the players were playing for.

Head to the recap of the action over at UK & Ireland PokerNews to discover how Geilich bossed his way to the title.

While Geilich was busy bossing his way to victory, many of the UK's grinders were battling it out in the Sunday Majors online.

Newcastle's "jambeyang" continued the trend of Brits scooping a Major by winning the Sunday Warm-Up at PokerStars for a cool $77,728.33 while the likes of Andy "wiisssppppaa" Taylor and former European Poker Tour Vilamoura champion Toby "810ofclubs" Lewis also helped themselves to five-figure scores.

All of this positivity was tarnished by the fact former 888poker and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Darren Woods was jailed for 15 months and ordered to pay back 1 million after being found guilty of numerous accounts of online poker fraud. If you're interested in Woods' story you can check it out at our UK & Ireland facing site.

Thankfully, the good began to shine through again with the latest online poker rankings being updated and popular grinder Rhys "floppinhel" Jones climbing up the leader board. We have a feeling it is going to be a big year for British and Irish online poker players so keeping up-to-date with the top 20 players from each country should be an exciting affair in 2015. Join us on that journey.

Back to the live poker world again because the fifth season of the UKIPT began in the middle of the week, first with the 3,300 buy-in High Roller and then the 770 Main Event.

Owain Carey won the High Roller title and the Main Event is still running as I tap away at my keyboard.

You can check out Day 1a and Day 1b recaps by clicking those links and if you want to discover what happened on Day 1c and beyond I suggest you head on over to UK & Ireland PokerNews!

Oh, before you go, something that is relevant to you even if you're not massively into the UK & Ireland poker scene. Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, a selection of 14 tournaments on the iPoker Network are having their buy-ins slashed by up to 60% yet their guarantees are remaining the same!
