PokerStars Sunday Million

It's almost the weekend and that means that it is time for the latest edition of the UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up, your one-stop shop for all things poker hailing from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The week got off to a fantastic start with the news that online grinder Rob Tinnion had won the PokerStars Sunday Million for more than $200,000. This in itself would have been enough for us to be shouting from the rooftops, but what is almost unbelievable is that Tinnion won this very tournament less than five months ago!

While Tinnion was busy bossing the online world, one of his fellow online grinders swapped the virtual felt for actual baize. Chris Johnson, known as "MAKKAPAKK" online, marched on to victory in the 2015 Genting Poker Series (GPS) Birmingham Main Event and banked a cool 37,000 for his efforts.

Also securing a live title was Mark Sanders who won the sell out Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) European Championship in Coventry. It is great to see the grass roots level of poker continuing to flourish in the UK and long may it continue.

Keeping with live poker, everyone's favourite British-Canadian, Kara Scott, embarked on a new poker journey when she signed to be a consultant and brand ambassador for Italian poker firm Tilt Events. Scott and her husband, professional poker player Giovanni "gioriz" Rizzo, will be flying the Tilt Events flag at major tournaments in Italy, including one of Scott's favourite cities, Venice.

Lastly, the 100,000 guaranteed partypoker WPT National UK London Main Event kicked off on February 12 with the first of three starting flights. Despite it's low 200 buy-in, the tournament attracted some huge stars include James Akenhead, Tamer Kamel and Surinder Sunar.

Flights 2 and 3 run on February 13, with the tournament crowning its champion on Sunday. You can follow all of the action on our live reporting pages.
