Domination By Shackelford On Tuesday at the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge

Event 5: $50 No-Limit Hold'em of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge continued on Tuesday with two more starting flights taking place.

After Day 1c and 1d, another 312 entries were generated 108 on Day 1c and 204 on Day 1d. Leading the surviving packs from those two flights were Sherry Dixon, Mark Dobbertin, and Shayne Shackelford.

On Day 1c, 13 players survived the carnage. Both Dixon and Dobbertin bagged up 154,500 in chips, overcoming Derek Hinchliffe and Allison Shultz.

First, Hinchliffe grabbed the lead in the later levels after getting it in bad and making two pair on the river to double before getting paid off huge with a set. After that, Shultz took the lead following a massive flush-over-flush hand at another table. However, a late flurry from Dixon and Dobbertin left them both tied for the biggest stack.

The story of Tuesday was Shackelford, though, who amassed an incredible 520,000 in chips. Considering the chip leaders from the previous three flights bagged an average of 161,275, this is a truly impressive feat. Further putting things in perspective, he raked in an amazing 25 percent of the chips in play that day.

Shackelford absolutely dominated the field, jumping into the chip lead after the mid-point of the flight by flopping a set of jacks to crack Randy Lingenfelter's aces. He then crushed the later levels as well. With two more starting flights to play out on Wednesday, someone could top Shackelford to take the lead into Day 2, but we highly doubt that's going to happen.

At the end of Day 1d, 24 players survived. That puts a total of 67 competitors advancing to Day 2 thus far, and the overall field has grown to 561 entries.
