BlogNews Weekly: Chess, Razz, and Live Poker 0001

Each week, PokerNews brings you insight into the happenings at some of the major poker sites. Featuring the most popular blog posts, BlogNews Weekly is your one-stop shop for all your poker blog highlights.

This week, we bring you highlights from PokerStars, Full Tilt, and partypoker blogs from last week.

Chess Tips for Poker Players

Many poker players also enjoy playing chess. It is by no coincidence that later in the year the PokerStars UKIPT Isle of Man (Oct. 1-4) and the PokerStars Chess International (Oct. 2-12) are scheduled to overlap.

PokerStars MindSports Ambassador Jennifer Shahade discusses how you can get prepared for a week of chess and poker in a blog titled Chess Tips for Poker Players.

Chess and poker have some similarities, including understanding game theory. One of the four tips Shahade discusses in the blog should hit home with many poker players. Shahade recommends learning how to combat tilt, not letting mistakes compound themselves, and always playing your "A" game, regardless of the circumstances.

Learn Razz

The "Game of the Week" at Full Tilt this week is fixed-limit razz. Razz is one of the easiest games to learn the rules to, however, understanding the math can prove to be the difference between winning big or losing your shirt.

Full Tilt's Gareth Chantler starts off the blog titled Learning Fixed-Limit Razz with explaining the basic rules of the game before hopping into some tips.

Unlike many other poker variants, Chantler points out in razz it is important to pay attention to what cards your opponents have exposed since this can potentially decrease the amount of your outs or the outs of other opponents still in the hand. He also runs through some examples of how you should examine your odds to see if it makes sense to continue in a hand or not.

Transitioning from Online to Live Poker

Hundreds of thousands of poker players are playing online each and every week. Believe it or not, it is a fact that many of these players have never stepped foot in a casino to play live poker.

There are many reasons this is the case, with one of them being fear. The partypoker blog titled Making the Transition from Online to Live Poker talks about how players in this situation should combat their fear, and how poker players should dive into the live arena to "gain experience, stature, wealth, and confidence."

The Grand Prix Millions is an excellent way to start getting this experience with half of the 18 opening days taking place online at partypoker and the other half taking place live at Dusk Till Dawn from May 15-23. This unique format will then have all the online and live players that made it to Day 2 compete live at Dusk Till Dawn for two more days before a winner is declared.
