The roster of PokerStars-sponsored celebrities received a beautiful addition on Tuesday, as the world's biggest poker room announced the sponsorship of the popular Japanese model Yuiko Matsukawa.

Already spotted in the field of the latest Macau Poker Cup, the PokerStars-sponsored poker festival played at the PokerStars LIVE Macau earlier this month, 24-year-old Matsukawa is the third Japanese national to become sponsored by the room. As of today, she joins Japan's first World Series of Poker bracelet winner Naoya Kihara and Team PokerStars Pro Online Kosei Ichinoise.

The signing of a young and popular model is a clear indication of how PokerStars has decided to bet on the expansion of the game of poker in Asia, and of how relevant the Asian market is for the future of the world's leading online poker room.

As PokerStars and Amaya Inc. Director of Corporate Communications Eric Hollreiser pointed out in a note sent to the press on Tuesday, "Yuiko Matsukawa is an exciting celebrity who has caught the poker bug and wants to share her love of the game with her fans. We look forward to working together to promote poker as an exciting, skill-based game in Japan and beyond."

He continued, "PokerStars champions the game of poker around the world and we are eager to promote its growth in Japan."

"I was honored to participate in a major poker event as a PokerStars brand ambassador," Matsukawa said about her adventure at the Macau Poker Cup. "In the beginning, I was a bit nervous, but eventually I found myself enjoying the game in a relaxed mood. I really appreciate my fans that cheered me on during the competition."

Speaking about her future endeavours with PokerStars, Matsukawa went on to say that she will "continue to brush up my skills for the next tournament. Please wish me luck!"

Known for her appearance on a number of top fashion magazines and for starring as the heroine of Terrace House: Closing Door, a docu-movie directed by Japan's Masato Maeda based on a reality TV show about six men and women living in a shared house, Matsukawa is now expected to promote poker as a game of skill become a familiar face in the circuit and participate in live poker events.
