UK's Benny Glaser Denies Brock Parker Fouth Bracelet in Event #33: $1,500 2-7 TD
Event #33: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball C a tournament that attracted 388 players and created a prize pool of $523,800 C saw 16 players return to action on Day 3, all with their eyes set on the $136,215 first-place prize.
Among those to fall before the final table were Christopher McHugh (16th - $5,473), Dutch Boyd (11th - $7,008), Marc Friedman (9th - $9,208), Steve Billirakis (8th - $12,419), and star-of-the-day chip leader Toby Mulloy (7th - $12,419).
At the final table, Turner was the first to fall courtesy of Noah Bronstein, and then Brock Parker, who was looking to win his fourth gold bracelet, dispatched Andrew Brown in fifth place. Parker then sent Russia's Sergey Rybachenko to the rail in fourth, before Benny Glaser busted Bronstein in third to set up a heads-up match with the final two fairly even in chips.
However, within 30 minutes, Glaser got the ball rolling and quickly picked up momentum. Unfortunately for Parker, he couldn't stop the freight train. In the final hand of the tournament, when Parker was down 13-1, Parker raised to 80,000 and Glaser called before they drew two and three respectively.
Glaser checked, Parker bet, and Glaser check-raised to 80,000. Parker three-bet all in for 120,000 and Glaser called before standing pat. Parker then drew a single card on the two subsequent draws.
Glaser tabled 9x7x6x4x2x, but Parker was drawing live with 8x6x5x3x. Parker squeezed the last card, which ended up being a useless 8x.
"It wasn't really that dramatic," Glaser said of the heads-up match. "I just got a lot of folds, I ran really good, and got lots of cards, and he seemed not to catch them. It was just pretty easy with no showdowns. Just ran really good."
The win marked Glaser's second WSOP cash, the first being a 289th-place finish in the Millionaire Maker for $5,990. As for the win, it was clear the bracelet was what mattered most.
"It means a lot, just the prestige, the accomplishment," he said. "It's amazing, something you just dream of. It feels quite surreal right now because I've been dreaming about it for so long. So happy, so proud."
The 26-year-old Glaser, who plays a lot of 2-7 triple draw online and occasionally writes for HighStakesDB.com, first came to the WSOP last year, but he failed to notch a cash. Obviously things went much better this year.
"Invest it into other poker games," Glaser replied when asked if he had any plans for the money. "I'm about to move into a new place, so that will go toward rent and doing it up. I'll celebrate obviously, but probably nothing too crazy."
