Roberto Romanello

Interested what's been going on during the past seven days in the UK and Ireland region? You've come to the right place because here's this week's edition of the UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up. What a fantastic week of poker it has been, with plenty of big wins, some superb value for players of all levels, and much more.

Each Monday, we take a look at the results from online poker's biggest tournaments and do so with fingers crossed in the hope that a British or Irish player has bagged a big score. Once again we weren't disappointed because one of the UK's most prominent stars, Roberto Romanello, reached two final tables of Sunday majors and walked away with more than $55,000 for his efforts.

A couple of days later, Romanello's amazing performances were eclipsed by one Christopher "NigDawG" Brammer who won PokerStars' Super Tuesday for more than $106,000. The win took Brammer's online tournament winnings past the $5 million barrier and should see him soar up the UK online poker rankings next week.

Speaking of which, Andy Holman and Phil Mighall both improved their online rankings this week, with the latter now knocking on the door of a top 10 spot. Mighall, who reached the final table of the WPT Nottingham Main Event, has been a picture of consistency for several months and will be fully deserving of his place in the top 10 when he finally gets there.

Keeping with online poker and the news that partypoker has added more than $400,000 worth of guarantees (over the course of a month) for players from the UK. It is part of a joint initiative with Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) and should prove to be extremely popular with both partypoker and DTD players alike.

DTD's supremo, Rob Yong, has added fuel to the fire by challenging anyone who manages to reach the final table of two of those tournaments, on the same night, to a heads-up match where they can beat the boss for a cool $25,000.

Lastly for the online poker world is the news of Full Tilt creating a new rewards program focusing on recreational players. It is the latest in a number of major changes by the management team as they try to improve the poker ecology for PokerStars' sister site.

Into the world of live poker now, where the UKIPT Bristol Main Event crowned its champion this week. That champion was Pierrick Tallon.

There will be a few more live poker champions in the coming weeks because the Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Championships are less than a week away, while Aspers is looking at reopening its casino in Swansea, three years after closing it down, which should see a lot more poker action going down in the Welsh coastal town.
