2015 WSOP Europe Day 14: MacPhee Tops Final 21 in Main Event; Bojang Leads High Roller

Wednesday marked the 14th day of the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe, and it was back to another day with more than one event on the schedule. The �10,450 Main Event was onto Day 3 with 65 players remaining, and the �25,600 High Roller kicked off as the final event of the series.

MacPhee Leads Final 21 in Main Event

Day 3 of the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event from Berlin, Germany. When it began, 65 players remained from the 313-player starting field. Rising star Dzmitry Urbanovich led the pack at the beginning of the day, but although he made his way all the way through with a chip stack of 414,000, it was Kevin MacPhee and his stack of 1.15 million leading the final 21 players.

Joining MacPhee and Urbanovich on Thursday will be plenty of big names, including Andrew Lichtenberger, Erik Seidel, Dimitar Danchev, Adrien Allain, JC Alvarado, Dominik Nitsche, and Ola Amundsgard. All of them have locked up a minimum of �23,500 in prize money, but it's the gold bracelet and �883,000 top prize that awaits for the winner.

With the top 32 places reaching the money in the �10,450 Main Event, not everyone that advanced to Day 3 would earn a return on their investment. Some of those who busted short of a cash were Henrik Hecklen, Fedor Holz, Davidi Kitai, Shannon Shorr, and Liv Boeree.

Then, with 33 players left in the field, Tobias Ziegler found himself all in with pocket jacks against the A?K? for [Removed:172]. According to the event reports, a Qx9x8xQ?10x board gave Kramer a flush and the winning hand. With that, he knocked out Ziegler in 33rd place and awarded him the unwanted title of "bubble boy."

After the bubble burst, the likes of Jason Mercier (32nd - �20,000), Elliot Smith (29th - �20,000), Jeff Gross (28th - �20,000), Roland Israelashvili (27th - �20,000), Bejamin Pollak (26th - �20,000), and Jeff Rossiter (24th - �23,500) all hit the rail and headed to the payout desk. For Mercier, a three-time gold bracelet winner, he made his 46th WSOP cash by squeaking into the money.

When the players return to action on Thursday, the cards will be in the air at 12 p.m local time with the plan to play down to six players remain. The final six will then have one day off before resuming final table action on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.

On Thursday, Amundsgard will return as the shortest stack remaining with 186,000 in chips, but Nitsche (189,000) and Robert Zipf (190,000) are also short and under 200,000 in chips.

Bojang Eyes POY Title with Early High Roller Lead

Ismael Bojang remains as one of the few players still alive to catch Mike Gorodinsky in the 2015 Global Poker Index WSOP Player of the Year race, and he's gotten himself off to a great start in the final event of WSOP Europe by seizing the Day 1 chip lead in the �25,600 High Roller.

Day 1 saw a field of 62 entries generated, but that number could grow with registration allowed until the start of Level 13. On Day 1, the field played the first 11 levels of the structure.

At the end of the first day of play, 30 remained with Bojang's stack of 317,000 in chips holding onto the top spot on the leaderboard. Tailing him are notables Fedor Holz with 291,000 and 2014 WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson with 274,000.

While Bojang is chasing a GPI WSOP Player of the Year title, the man currently in the lead and the one he's chasing, Gorodinsky, also advanced out of Day 1 with a solid stack. Gorodinsky bagged up 197,000 in chips on Day 1 of the High Roller and will aim to seal the deal to capture the Player of the Year title. Stephen Chidwick is also chasing Gorodinsky, and he finished Day 1 with 230,000 in chips.

Going into the home stretch, Gorodinsky leads the race with 2,251.81 points. Bojang sits sixth with 1,808.40 points, and Chidwick is seventh with 1,764.68 points.

Some of those who were eliminated on Day 1 included Brian Hastings, Shaun Deeb, Connor Drinan, Bryn Kenney, Paul Newey, and Adrian Mateos.

Day 2 will commence at 2 p.m. local time with the plan to play down to the final table.
