888poker, the world's second-largest online poker site, is now officially operating in Denmark, one of Europe's healthiest online gambling markets and the only country in Scandinavia open to international gambling operators.

Along with 888poker, online players in Denmark can access all the other products created by the room's parent company 888Holdings, such as the online casino room 888Casino and the online sportsbook 888Sports, both of which can now be reached from within the country.

Amongst the most positive notes related to 888poker's entrance in the Danish market is the fact that players from Denmark will not limited to playing against themselves as it's not a ring-fenced market. That means it'll join the room's international player pool and allow players to sit at the same tables as thousands of grinders from around the world.

Thanks to the hard work of our team and the regulators involved, we are excited to offer our entertaining, secure and trusted gaming brands to players from Denmark.

According to PokerScout's latest data, 888poker is home to a seven-day average of 2,400 real money ring game players, with a six-month trend that has seen the number of players on the platform to remain relatively stable.

"Thanks to the hard work of our team and the regulators involved, we are excited to offer our entertaining, secure and trusted gaming brands to players from Denmark," the Chief Operating Officer at 888 Holdings Itai Frieberger stated in a note sent to the media earlier this month.

"Launching in new regulated markets concurrently is another testimony of our ability to leverage our regulated technology and know-how in delivering our market-leading products. We are proud to offer the 888 marquee brands in these markets, reaffirming our strategy to become a dominant operator in global gaming regulations."

To enter the Danish market 888Holdings had to apply for their second Danish gambling license in five years, as the group had already secured a license back in 2011 when they first started to set their eyes on the Scandinavian country.

At that time, however, the company decided to put their Danish operations on hold and focus on the work needed to reenter the US market after the complete shutdown that followed Black Friday.

The decision to enter the Danish market comes at a moment when the country's online gambling market showed one of the best performances in Europe, due in no small part to a stable online poker vertical being counterbalanced by a remarkable growth from the online casino one.

Numbers at hand, a report from Denmark's gambling authority Spillemyndigheden showed that online poker gross gaming revenues in Q2 2015 have been in line with what the market produced during the same quarter in 2014, online casino grew by 24 percent year-over-year with gross gaming revenues moving from Kr270 million to Kr335 million.
