PokerStars Breaks New Record for Largest-Ever Tournament
During the Road to 100 Billion celebration in June 2013, PokerStars established a new record for the largest-ever tournament when 225,000 players ponied up the $1 buy-in to play in the PokerStars Guinness World Record Attempt, which featured a $300,000 guarantee.
It took more than two years for the record to be broken, when on Sunday, Oct. 4, in the first tournament in the inaugural Common Cents poker festival, 253,698 entered the Common Cents Kick-Off. This tournament only set back those that entered a $0.01 buy-in with a $100,000 guarantee, meaning the prize pool boasted a humongous $97,463.02 in overlay.
According to the PokerStars Blog post titled Austria's "DaDumon" wins PokerStars' Largest-Ever Tourney, "DaDumon" navigated through this massive field in less than seven hours to not only claim the honors of winning the largest-ever tournament in poker history, but also to ship the top prize of $10,000.
There are still many more tournaments left in the Common Cents poker series on PokerStars. Read more here to learn all about this series and what is left on the schedule.

According to the Full Tilt Blog post titled Another Day, Another Jackpot, the jackpot was hit once again just twenty days later, on Oct. 6, when Brazil's "skipshot383" won $45,009.72 or half of the $90,019.44 jackpot. The other half of the jackpot was split between the 6,587 players who played in the deal in the previous 12 hours that the jackpot was triggered.

Making a Hero Call
Partypoker ambassador Tony Dunst is back once again giving away free advice to readers of the site's blog. In the partypoker blog titled Teach The People: Making a Hero Call, Dunst discusses a hand between poker legends Phil Laak and Brian Rast, where the latter makes a call without just ace-high on the river at the Premier League.
The hand starts fairly straight-forward until the river. On a board of 3?6?4?10?10?, Laak makes a huge over-bet to try to take down the pot. Rast, who is holding A?8?, understandably thinks through the board as there are many hands that beat him including any pair, two-pair, three-of-a-kind, flush, full-house, and even ace-high with a better kicker.
Dunst comments that Laak would be more likely to make a value bet if he held any of the top hands in his range on the river instead of putting his opponent all-in. Rast eventually makes the correct "hero call" and scoops the pot when Laak shows his opponent he was bluffing with Q?7?.
You can watch how the hand played out for yourself in the video below.
