WSOPE Berlin

Are you sticking around in Berlin after the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE)? Not jetting off to Malta for the European Poker Tour? If you do stick around Berlin, we recommend you sample some of the German capitals highlights.

Berlin is a city with great culture and atmosphere, despite its turbulent 20th century history. Aside from the obvious historical attractions including the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, and the immensely thought-provoking Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, there is some real character to the city if you just scratch beneath the surface.

Check out the Views of the City

If youre looking for a vantage point of the city, then one of the very best is the view from the Reichstag. Home to the German Parliament, this building was opened in 1894 and renovated in 1999 by British architect Norman Foster. Its roof is an entirely glass structure, offering panoramic views of the city from right above the centre of the German government. Entrance to the roof is free, but you must register in advance here.

Alternatively, and just a short walk from the Spielbank Casino, you could visit the Panoramapunkt on the 24th and 25th floors of the Kollhoff Tower in Potsdamer Platz. This building has the fastest elevator in Europe and offers you a great vantage point over the Brandenburg Gate as well as Potsdamer Platz itself.

See the Sights by Bike

Short of time? Have a morning before your flight to Malta? Get on a bike and check out these quick tours of the must-do sights. Berlin is an immensely cycle-friendly city, with many cycle lanes and traffic lights especially for cyclists in the city. There are many routes on offer from a variety of different companies, but they all encompass the major sites and are normally lead by experienced tour guides or locals.

Relax by the Spree

If you should have a sunny day in Berlin which are few and far between during the winter months be sure to join the Berliners in making the most of it and relax by the river that runs through the German capital. There are small bars running up and down the length of the river, including Club der Vision?re which stands on stilts out into the river!

Check Out the Olympic Stadium

Are you a big sports fan? Then there isnt a bigger destination in Berlin than the Olympiastadion. With its fantastic architecture, it is stunningly simple but overwhelmingly grandiose. It was home to the 1936 Olympics, which were famous for black American athlete Jesse Owen's four gold medals, and also played host to games in the 2006 World Cup and the 2009 World Athletics Championships, where Usain Bolt broke the 100m and 200m world records. The stadium is easily accessible using Berlins U2 underground line.

Eat your First Currywurst!

A trip to Berlin wouldnt be complete without trying a Currywurst. It is the typical german mix of pork sausage, covered in a mixture of ketchup and curry powder, and then served with a bread roll or ries.

Its a culinary institution loved by both commuters, students and tourists alike. Konnokes Imbiss on Sch?nhauser Allee has been serving Currywurst since 1930! Be sure to check it out!
